The daily newspapers of Metro Boston on April 17th 2007.

1) After flipping through 3 pages of death and blood from Virginia Tech in the 'Metro', on page 4 I see Epoisses's face with the caption: "I'm into [boston] + [anti-pop] Michael gets you the inside scoop on Boston's anti-pop scene... texted FREE to your phone." Not surprised, but caught me off-guard. 2) The Globe's Charlie Savage won the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting for his revelations on Bush's unprecedented frequency of using signing statements to bypass American law on torture, spying, and imprisoning people without charges. I couldn't be more pleased this is getting even more press. 3) A new free daily rag, 'Boston Now' was launched today, issue 001, volume 001. A tad thin, but it looks to be a more interactive 'Metro'. Outlook grim.

3) I heard a story about it on NPR-- they're planning to use bloggers as "cheap labor" reporters. There were concerns about the quality of journalism declining because of this. I have 2 questions about this: a) can the quality of the journalism possibly get any worse than the Metro with their 'real' reporters? There are malapropisms and typos everywhere. It's horrific. b) how can labor get any cheaper than actual reporters who do a good job? They get paid about $.02 an hour.

Christ... how do they eat if they offer their two cents?

Posted by G lib on 2007-04-17 18:22:22 +0000
They don't offer their $.02 every hour, dummy, just most hours. And then sometimes the person offered it doesn't take it. And in answer to your question about what they eat, the answer is beer.

I thought the lean years were know as Salad Days.

He of the growing nose.

Everyone's noses continue to grow as they age. Your chin will also appear to grow, as your teeth sink into your mouth. Aging is a beautiful, and ugly thing. At summer camp, during morning prayers, I used to visualize the other campers aging. It was really fun.

Salad Days because salad is served early on in dinner. It's not the first thing but it's an early course, hence "Salad Days" to represent the early courses of life. I, however, eat salad last.

I do that as well (at least at home - awkward socially at a restaurant to do so sometimes)

I thought it was because that was the only thing writers could afford...lettuce.

What newspaper did this fuckwit write for?

He shares the growing nose, not the literary credentials

First thing in the morning, before hubby wakes up, I like imaging what he'll look like when he's 80. Nothing like Teddy, BTW. I reckon not a hundred miles away from Paul Newman. Mmmm, craggy.

Yep, I'd rank the Senator right with Bob and Will. They killed his brothers, but they couldn't kill Eddie. Always nice to see him. Thanks MF DU.

It's not socially awkward, it's the Eye-Talian way of doing it, which is obviously the best way.

Posted by Miriam on 2007-04-19 13:46:22 +0000
Is he the pickled brother? So steeped in booze that the bullets dissolved on contact?

Posted by tendiamonds on 2007-04-19 13:50:49 +0000
Really? I thought it was the You're-A-Peein' way of doing it.

This makes for a Larry David type of response. Just saying if waiter at some run of the mill restaurant I would go to in a typical day brings out salad before a meal Im not going to ask him to take it away and bring it back after the meal, or provide him /her with some elaborate set of instructions. If it gets there early, I can just hang onto it and eat it after meal, but if everyone else is eating and there is a plate of salad in front of me, I will eat salad then and there. I dont feel like sitting there without eating while everyone else is - When in Rome, you know?

Cheese is often the final course.
