The New Arctic Monkeys...

... is fucking garbage. Could somebody explain why everyone creamed their jeans over this band? Myspace is streaming their new one, if you need ammunition.

i dunno, the first album had a few good songs on it. it was a HUGE hit in england. suppose that's why all the good press. if europe likes it, it must be great [see: the strokes] they weren't reinventing the wheel or anything. i suppose they were WAYYY to hyped the first time around. nobody really seems to be talking them up nowadays.

If the Strokes had released their first record on like Touch and Go instead of a major, everyone woulda fawned over it, even the musicians jealous of their sudden rise and familial connections.

I totally dig them.

I dunno - the Kaiser Monkeys, the Snow Chiefs, the Arctic Patrol... I just can't get into it. Whatever happened to the Who, the Kinks, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones? I mean, British Invasion, hello? Even Blur held my attention for longer than the current line-up of dross.

Exactly, which is why the Arctic Monkeys being different is so nice.

Do I still like grime?

I don't know enough about the A. Monkeys to say whether they are different or not - however, I will say that I really liked the s/t release and will probably at least lurk around a couple of the tracks of the 2nd album (which I have yet to hear any of).

Yes you do. However, you don't like Amy Winehouse.

She's ENGAGED!!!

What I've heard of Amy Winehouse is great.

The version of You Know I'm No Good w/ Ghostface is on point, GK is on fire, and the Hot Chip remix of Rehab is party worthy, can't wait to play it out...

What I've heard of Winehouse is mostly sprinkled with a couple Ella Fitzgerald covers.

She's superb.

This band is from England and who gives a fuck?

Posted by MF DU on 2007-04-24 18:18:18 +0000
chortle inducing

Really getting into this one. Teddy Picker was my favorite, now leaning towards Balaclava, D is for Dangerous, and This House is a Circus. Love the ballad '505'. Amazing closer.

The Holden Caulfields Brit-Pop, this is a Top 5 album of '07 for sure. Probably top 3.

Could it please be over sooner? I really dislike English soap operas.
