Time to buy spray-on sunscreen to reach my back. This nonsense has got to end! But it was kind of worth it for the 8+ hours I spent in my yard: weeding, planting, digging, composting, putting together furniture. The neighbors are getting impressed, and still need several more hours to finish planting bushes (peone, bleeding heart, azalea, hydrangea) in the front, and veggies in pots and starter seeds. Gotta love getting sun and listening to NPR all weekend.

Made a table to be used when grilling on the Weber. Other than fasteners, constructed from all found materials.

That's rad! Did you use driftwood from Swampscott? Very impressive. My furniture is from Ikea. Not nearly as impressive.

Cool. My dad taught me to swim by tossing me to his friend in the pool, then purposely dropping me in the middle and making me swim so I wouldn't drown. Loved being 4.

It wasn't quite like that.
Although Maddie kept yelling at me while we were in the YMCA pool: "LET GO OF ME - I WANT TO DO IT MYSELF!"

Left over wall studs from the kitchen renovation and a butcher block top that had been on a hutch.

Nothing's easier to work with than 50 year old softwood.

It will be a great trait overall for her in the world - I agree. (Although as a parent of a rocket-fueled soon to be 3 year old, there is a certain level of exhaustion and exasperation that goes with it) ;)

Queen's Day yesterday. A day off work and with mini urban yard-sales lining the streets and drunk, orange-clad revellers dancing in the city squares to generally awful techno DJs or pub rock bands playing covers of Aerosmith & Led Zeppelin.
I drank way too much Strongbow, talked to lots of strangers, bought beer for a trio visiting yanks I ran into (also strangers), gave some change to little kids playing musical instruments in the park, laughed at the angry-looking 40-something woman selling a bunch of second-hand porn DVDs (which I'm betting dollars to donuts weren't hers), bought a set of second-hand Tae Bo videos, ate Indian take-away, remembered why I hate dance music, tried to remember what it was like to be 18, and felt like een echte Amsterdammer. Not necessarily in that order.

Let me get my head together first, then let's talk dates and airfare. Don't know if I'll still be where I am now this time next year.
