First off - don't read any further if you have had it with "Mike Fucking Patton".
picked up Tomahawk's 'Anonymous' last night.
It is all based on Indian tribal trances / chants.
First impression:
Surprisingly different and better from the last 2 Tomahawk records. For one thing, it seems a lot more singular in its vision (i.e. not a lot of start / stops / genre-hopping as a lot of standard-fare Mike Patton tends to be). That vision is pretty textural and atmospheric, but that isn't to say there aren't any songs.
There is some vocal play and effects as can be expected with Patton. (One track towards the second half has this vocal echo effect that sounds like Chuck D did on the title cut from 'Fear of A Black Planet') but what is most impressive here IMHO is the dynamic Denison adds. (and Stanier, natch) The guitar work really stands out, especially on the last track of the album which is Denison by himself. Very mellow, peyote trance stuff.
Denison doubles on bass duties. I don't know the whole Kevin Rutmanis story, but he was fired out of the Melvins a year or so ago and replaced by the guys in Big Business - I wonder if the Melvins departure also meant from Ipecac in general as he is also absent from Tomahawk now.
I am glad that this has become more of a collaborative effort as opposed to "just another Patton side project".
I think End Of Radio #3 might have a Denison-Kimball trio track lead in to the solo Denison piece on this new Tomahawk record.
With only one complete listen, I will give Anonymous a B+ as a whole and an A- for Denison's work specifically.

Duly noted.
For Patton, the Peeping Tom stuff was so-so, but this Tomahawk LP might be more up my alley.

Does James Kimball play with Tomahawk regularly?
[I then went off and started Google Searches and got lost looking up DK3 info and trying to order stuff on insound.com...]

sorry - I led TGL down the wrong road. Kimball is absent from all Tomahawk stuff - I was just saying I could do a great radio "double shot" if you will by playing a DK3 track and seguing into the new Tomahawk - Give me an opportunity to talk a bit about Denison...
