Wilco + VW = Dude, WTF

Pitchfork has brought the below disturbing news: Never thought I'd see the day when Tweedy's voice and Nels Cline's guitar would be a part of the pitch to buy a Hitler mobile. I can take Led Zep and Cadillac, but this one is harder for me to deal with. I hear Jim O'Rourke is in the new Verizon Wireless™ ad - I hope I see it in between the Taco Bell™ ad featuring Lou Barlow and the Yo Quero dog. What's weird (and probably a bit hypocritical) here is I dont seem to mind when musicians make music specifically for commercials, or when Directors helm commercials (David Lynch, Spike Lee, and Martin Scorsese have all done it). But creating stuff one day and licensing it out another day? I still wish Wilco the best and love their new album. I just hope that these commercials dont air incessantly on NESN like the goddam Comcast™ ad with the redhead girl informing us it is "SWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEET" that she can make unlimited calls while the mom interviews the cable guy like he is applying to be a manager at a Fortune 500 company. That frickin cable mafia ad is quite possibly even worse than the fucktard Red Roof Inn spot from 2006.

Is there an end tag missing on this post?

MF DU... the kids who work in advertising agencies and make these kinds of pitches (especially VW who always marketed toward a young/hip/with it crowd) tend to listen to what we'd call "non-mainstream music" (although we might be indisagreement as to whether or not Wilco is truly underground). How is sharing their favorite music any different from your radio show? When I have more time, I'll find that article I read in the Times that details this phenomenon of the art-school kids getting the indie bands in major market advertisements.

Wilco is not underground. But the indie / underground presence / milieu surrounding that band is undeniable in its indie undergroundness- Nels Cline, Jim O'Rourke, Drag City, Chicago etc. Again, I support Wilco - if this campaign brings them success my hat is off to them - I always think it is cool when a person who wouldn't have found out about something gets a taste of the "new" if you will. from a personal peeve standpoint only, it just feels weird. I guess I'm just wishing that VW would have picked Arcade fire or Death Cab or Clap Yr Hands say Yeah as I don't like any of those bands anywhere as near as I like Wilco.

Because on my screen, it goes right from MF DU's headline to the minor league tantrum, eliminating everything in between. Is it just me, or is this happening to everyone?
