Always liked the Pixies cover 'Cactus'.

Introducing David Bowie. To me this was a true re-birth. I love this album as much as any of his earliest work.
This album is hard to pan. Bowie can be accused of being too good, too soon and as such, his work that followed was also open for criticism. For an artist to produce albums as inventive as Hunky Dory is rare for such a young kid - he was 23. Then to follow that up with the genius of Ziggy Stardust, and even Aladdin Sane, Low, and Scary Monsters, he certainly made genius sound rather easy. Which brings me to Heathen.
In essence, Heathen is as traditional a Bowie work as any from years back. This album reunites Bowie with producer Tony Visconti and the production and songwriting show it. Even silly songs like "Everyone Says 'Hi'" make a good impression. For Bowie purists, the album opener "Sunday" is pure innovation while the rocking sound of the Pixies' cover "Cactus" is what Bowie/Gabriels wanted out of Tin Machine. Another great cover is of Neil Young's "I've Been Waiting for You."
Of the nine original tunes, I most like "5:15 The Angels Have Gone," "Sunday," "Everyone Says 'Hi'," "A Better Future" and "Heathen (The Rays)".
I've seen him perform most of this album live several times, and he was as good live as on "vinyl."

I'm digging this album. Seems like Bowie is settling nicely into the 'gracefully aging rock star' mode here. Doesn't seem like he's trying to do anything groundbreaking... he's happy making a very solid album. I don't mean that in a negative way -- this is good stuff.
