The Bronx Is Burning

Did You guys hear about this? Sorry for posting MFY stuff here, but this looks pretty intriguing. ESPN starts the miniseries on July 9th after the Home Run derby. Some of this baseball lore makes it into the South Bronx section of 'Can't Stop, Won't Stop'. I think "TBIB" is also a book of the same name.

I've been seeing commercials for it on ESPN -- looks great!

came on too late for me to watch it. Did anyone find this year's home run derby less interesting than last year's? I miss the kayakers in Pittsburgh...

Too late for me, too. I've heard a lot of sports talk radio dissing on this year's derby being boring, however, I kinda liked it for the following reasons:
  1. I like Alex Rios, and like to see sluggers that are little guys.
  2. Matt Holliday is one of my binkies.
  3. It made it seem like someone hitting a lot of homers at AT&T park is doing something more impressive...

First Impressions: -Don't Like The Sterility of the 'Re-Recorded Songs of the Era' sounds like a hallmark greeting card covering the Ramones - the budget definitely went into getting Platt and Turturro. IMHO they wouldn't have been less authentic if there was a choice made to not feature music that was popular on the radio back then -Holy Prosthetic Billy Martin ears -Holy fake Reggie Jackson stache (Is that the guy from Rescue Me behind the wigs and prosthetic makeup?) So far, I guess I could go for a viewing of 'Summer Of Sam' instead. However, I will stick with it, some of the political context is interesting...
