Art is up

So, my art is up, except the one I forgot to pick up at my framer's this morning. Now I have to title and price everything. That's the hard part. Any suggestions? I have to put the price of the frame into it, and figure out how much I think it's worth. I'm thinking around $250-350 for small pieces, $500 for medium, and $950-1500 for large, but I have no way to gauge whether people will balk at the prices or think it's undervalued. The show looks amazing, and I'll try to post photos soon. The opening is on the 9th now, and there are different times listed on the postcards I sent out and what was printed in the paper. At least I got the lame description of my work changed on the JCC's website!

I remember when my abstract-artist-ex offered to sell me (nigh on 10 years ago) an unframed large painting of his to me for 500 dollars. At the time, I just didn't have the dough (um, not sure I have it now, actually), but I certainly wouldn't say your prices sound unreasonable. I'll do a little poking around and see if I can get a reading on current market prices for such works. YAY, YOU! x

This is a UK-based website - recommended by several resources for "new" or "emerging" artists. Keep in mind that prices are in GBP, so double the figures to get USD prices. Looks like you're in the right ballpark. :o)

Thank you! I went back to my framer and threw out the bigger numbers I was thinking, and she said no problem, that if someone wanted to pay less, they would approach me for a different price. Sounds good to me! Turns out there are people asking about prices and interested in buying already. Who knew?! Looks like it's time to clean out the garage and get out the paints and papers again.

While I was putting the prices up today, one potential patron commented on how he doesn't like purple, but appreciates it in my work (maybe 5 of the 18 in the show). He may buy something. A second potential patron asked the price of my largest piece (a sketch portrait), and is going to talk with her husband about commissioning a new one from me! I can't believe it! I guess I really do have to get out my supplies and set up my studio again. Talk about incentive. And terror setting-in. I always get nervous about making things for people to buy, instead of making things and people coming along and wanting what I've created already. It's so much pressure to create for individuals. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe.

Thank you. It's no book or record deal, but it's something.

Thanks. Looks like I'll need to go on a paper and paint run while in NYC. Hello Kate's and Pearl!

Well Done M. Wish I could see it hung. Always great to get stuff shown and comments to follow. Got the postcard; those look good too.

Thank you. I will take lots of photos. Right now the woman I need to help me hang the last piece is out of town until Monday. Oh, well.

Thank you. And absolutely! The opening is on Thursday night, and I'm a little nervous. I really hope people show up.

Whenever I leave my office to go to the bathroom, I catch people stopping to admire my stuff on the walls...it's weird, and cool. Of course, their faves are mostly the few I'm not selling.
