Chippy tells me that you called last night-- I totally didn't hear it. TELL US ALL ABOUT IT!

It was great! I sold one painting and got wonderful feedback about the rest. There were some people there (hopefully collectors) who absolutely loved my sketch portraits and the texture in my work. Basically it was a huge ego stroke that I desperately needed. Always good to get positive comments on your artwork, since it's your soul on display. Of course, there was a lot of pressure from my siblings to sell the pieces that I'm keeping for myself (4 of my best/favorites). My brother suggested I make limited edition prints of one of the portraits, which is actually a good idea; I'll look into it once I can breathe again.
The painting that sold is one of my favorites, too. I considered not selling it, but it's going to extended family (my bro-in-law's brother and wife), so I know it will have a good home and will be with people I like a lot.
Several people asked why I don't sign my work, but I think it would destroy the layout and take away from the pieces; that said, I should've signed all of the mats before the frames were on. Oh, well.
Now I just need to sell $1400 more of my stuff to break even on the framing costs.

Oh, and a guy I like showed up and hung out for a really long time to be able to talk with me about the art. I didn't think he would remember to come, and hadn't really seen or spoken with him all summer, so that was a nice surprise, too.

That's fantastic! Congratulations!

I can't believe no one has made a crude comment regarding "Miriam's opening".
Oh, wait. I just did.
Phew.

Pamsterdam-- lowering the bar in 25 countries (and counting)
(there's a tagline, tgl!)

MF: don't dupe posts rule?
Posted by pamsterdam on 2007-08-14 14:14:49 +0000
Ouch.
I've only ever been to 21 countries.
Posted by G lib on 2007-08-15 03:35:54 +0000
OH NO! I TOTALLY DIDN'T MEAN IT THAT WAY!
Maybe a better one would be:
Pamsterdam: Spreading the gospel of dirty jokes in 21 countries. (and counting)
Better? The truth is, I'm jealous of people who pick up on this stuff-- I am just oblivious. That's what I meant to say.

Sorry, Glib - I am WAY too sensitive. It's one of my many annoying traits, including having the sense of humor of a 12-year-old boy. I'm sure many people would love it if I grew up and stopped making these kinda cracks... um, I mean jokes. Very immature. Thanks for soothing my (way too tenuous) ego. x
Did I mention how much I love your hair? I tried to get my hairdresser to cut mine into a bob a few months ago, and he was all, "Um, no. You're not allowed to do that. You're growing it." He's the hair nazi.
Posted by MF DU on 2007-08-15 05:21:17 +0000
fuck yes.
Posted by G lib on 2007-08-15 08:28:58 +0000
I'm there with you in the oversensitive department. But what I lack in 12 year old boy, I make up with guilt. Both giving and getting. They don't call me G "Catholic" Lib for nothin'!
And thanks for the hair complement. And I wish I had a hair nazi to make me do something with my hair that ISN'T a bob.
In fact, I should do a 'GLib's Bobs through the ages' photo gallery at some point, as I've had the same bob for the better part of my life. There are a few exceptions to this rule, a years in the 80s for the 'permed bob,' a few years in the 90s for the 'chelsea bob,' and a few years in the 00s for the 'lazy bob' in which I couldn't be bothered to get my hair cut. Right now I'm rocking the 'overpriced bob', in which I spend too much money getting my hair cut into a bob that is slightly fluffier than the one my sister used to give me for free. I'm glad you like it :)
Suffice it to say, you are awesome, and it was great to see your awesomeness in person on Friday. I had completely forgotten how you make sipping a 7 and 7 into a burlesque dance-- a flirty and sexy affair (without the stripping, of course.) Thank goodness there wasn't any fruit around! Nobody can eat a strawberry like pamsterdam, that's for damn sure.
Posted by pamsterdam on 2007-08-15 10:00:25 +0000
Oh wow! I had no idea...
...but I have been taking striptease classes! Strawberries not included.
It's funny, I went with my brother to his weekly bowling game with a bunch of fellow developmentally-delayed folks (there are about 50 in total; they take over the whole place) yesterday, and found out that 5 of them think I'm their girlfriend. One had his arm around me the whole time, another kept making the "call me" hand gesture at me, and this one guy kept trying to dance with me to the blaring disco music. Maybe I need to take "how NOT to flirt with men" classes!!!
As for my hairdresser, come to Amsterdam. Eamon will totally tell you what to do. But I think your bob suits you purrrfectly. :o)

Reminds me a little of the haiku I wrote for you at the Model back in the day. You're just as hot as ever! Wish I could've been there.

You're too sweet. I wish you could've been there too - nobody does haiku performance art like Miss Miriam. x

Just noticed that someone keeps writing in my show guest book: Mr. Gofuckyourself. Someone else keeps crossing it out. My guess is that it's a teenager or pre-teen who thinks he's funny. Second guess is someone who really hates me that I'm unaware of. Either way, it's not cool.

the Duane in Tenessee?
Posted by Miriam on 2007-08-22 12:13:24 +0000
That would've been my guess, but it's not in all caps, and it was written twice, so odds are it's you, MF DU!

I recently realized that there is a video camera pointed to the area where my guestbook is located and the people who monitor it are with me on catching the offensive person or persons in question. At least someone keeps seeing what's written and crosses it out. Going on four times now. Starting to tick me off.

wow - holy thread deceleration, Batman!

That's why I didn't respond. I wasn't sure if he was labelling me, or was hoping to see the band someday. Honestly, I consider myself much more of a Knoxville girl or a Bostonian than a Nashvillian.
