Wednesdays suck ass

Wednesday's completely suck - its halfway through the working week so at lunchtime you know you have to do all that shit again before the sweet relief that is the weekend. Its enough to make one start hatching plans to climb the water tower, rifle in hand. Good news though you lucky lucky people, I have a solution.... As I have the best job in the world, I of course have Wednesday off AND lots of lovely boats to play with. I propose a sail/picnic/swim/kayak/whatever on one of the uninhabited islands in the outer harbor. Can anyone get Wednesday off or perhaps even a half day? Fake the symptoms of Ebola then run away to sea at lunchtime, you know you want to.

Or maybe it was bad sushi. Or homemade mayo...don't think I've used that one before.

I was thinking that maybe I would get a case of the fenways.

I thought about calling in asthma this morning; should have. On the way to work my check engine light came on. Checked the engine 10 minutes later when I pulled into work and saw I was low on coolant. Left for lunch a few hours later and stopped at to get coolant and left my lunchdate (a new colleague) in the car with the radio and a/c on and engine off while I paid and filled the tank. Put the key in and nothing happened. Battery=dead. Called work and had one of the maintenance guys come start the car and drove around for a while. Had the new colleague wait in my car while I bought us sandwiches; she drove across town to her office and I went back to mine. Sure hope Ubarsu starts when I'm ready to go home. I think the multi-days above 100 degrees have fried the battery a bit. Our IT guy says he's gone through 5 tractor batteries this summer. He grows tobacco, corn and soybeans. Less tobacco this year; I think he's cashing in on ethanol.

Hey, Corby! How was the sailing jaunt? C'mon - make the rest of us jealous (or in my case, even more jealous than I already am) of your fabulous sailing lifestyle. Oooh, the glamour! Sea wind in your hair, beer in one hand, that steering-stick-thingie in the other...

it was very nice indeed - started off super gusty, we had to reduce sail and were still putting the rail underwater and getting lots of spray on deck - after mooring in the islands for a spot of lunch and a swim the wind eased, we shook out the reefs and had a glorious sail all afternoon - sailed into the harbour on a gentle beam reach, with Virtue at the tiller and the sun setting over the Boston skyline. how was work slaves??

I'm technically on holiday, but marooned up in NH with my father & brother. Tonight I'm getting whisked up to York Beach for a weekend of boozy sunbathing, just in time for the (predicted to be) rainy weather. Hm. While you were sailing happily, I was walking around my old home town (Durham, home of UNH and little else) daydreaming of Boston Harbour and trying to remember the name of that steering-stick-thingie. Tiller. Thanks. Mmmm, the smell of salt air...
