Serious question

Does anyone have any ideas on how to cut a 1968 Admiral refrigerator into pieces so that it can be removed? The Sears movers couldn't get it down the stairs after we got our new one. In addition, how dangerous is the Dichlorodifluoromethane (Freon-12) I've exposed myself to by sawing through the coils?...

IS THERE A BACK PORCH THAT IT CAN BE LOWERED OFF OF?????????// THAT IS A COMMON WAY TO REMOVE OVERSIZED ITEMS FROM BUILDINGS!!!!!! AS FAR AS THE FREON, WATCH ABOUT INHALING IT OR GETTING IT IN YOUR EYES, BUT I THINK IT'S ONLY REALLY THERE WHEN YOU FIRST PUNCTURE THE COILS??? I DON'T THINK IT LINGERS!!!!!!!!!!

i wouldn't use freon as a personal lubricant or hair gel or even mouthwash, but a little on your hands (as long as you wash them) shouldn't be too bad. have you thought about using a SAWZ-ALL to cut it into tiny bits, this is what i've done when needing to get rid of oversized furniture and such.

I'd bet this is your best plan, unless you can push it off your porch.

I don't have a sawz-all, but I do have a jig-saw for which I could get some gnarly blades for. The Sears guy thought it might have come up from the 2nd floor bay window, piano mover style. This totally blows...

You can borrow my Sawz-all(tm), you'll need to get some blades. Not sure this would actually work, however. I don't think Freon is flammable (inflammable ?). However, Al Gore won't be happy if you let it escape to the atmosphere.

as its an old fridge most of the freon would have already leaked out anyway - freon is not particularly toxic so nothing to worry about - I suggest the old fashion method - cold chisel and a lump hammer - by the time you have sorted out a sawzall, bought a blade and faffed about the fridge could be pieces in the skip. Im sure the metal will only be spot welded - knock out the welds and it will fall to pieces

Was this photo taken after hearing the news about Conor's fridge or the opening of the latest Gore residence energy bill?
