What's more dishonest? Her speech or a pageant and their administrators who can pretend that speechmaking is something that anyone watching the show gives a rip about?
Yes it is a stupid and horrible speech that should not have been given, but in order to dig her "stupid" hole, she was given a shovel by someone else.

I actually saw this on TV. I love it when vapid pageant people try to act smart and fail dismally. I am fulled with a pure, unadulterated glee.
The sad part is that the rest of the ladies' answers barely any better.

Haven't visited that site in years. Do they still have the "stole my bike" series?

Ayuh.

My God, it's like listening to someone torture a kitten.
SHE DOESN'T KNOW! MOVE ON TO THE BIKINI ROUND, ALREADY! LEAVE HER ALONE!
Poor kid. I hope someone hugged her after the show.
Does anyone really think that beauty pageants benefit from this kind of bullcrap? These are not bright young ladies. Ogle them and have done with it.

I don't know if they benefit, but they do divide the contestants.
Just a guess here, I'll bet Ms. S Carolina didn't win....

Alright, CC, I'll own up - I've never watched a beauty pageant. Are there really contestants who have thoughtful, inspiring responses to theses kinds of questions? Do any of them say anything that sounds both intelligent and genuine? I'm honestly curious - I've always assumed not, snooty gal that I am.

Do we even know what pageant this is? G Lib, I'm looking at you.
Also, I'm not at all sure that "these are not bright young ladies," Pamsterdam, although from the evidence presented, it is probably safe to say that
*this* young lady is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and that her reply actually answers the question in a rather telling fashion, if only by example.
I do think it's more difficult than it appears to answer on the spot questions, though it is a skill one can learn, and I would imagine would be something beauty pageant contestants should be practicing...even so, we're doubly prejudiced by having the transcription on screen--everybody sounds like a dumb ass when their spoken words are written down. My god, have you ever read a deposition? Otherwise brilliant people come off as total morons.

True that. A savvy journalist can make someone look like a scholar or a fool, depending upon whether or not all the "um"s "ah"s and "y'know"s are left in an interview transcript.

She didn't win.

It was the Miss Teen USA pageant. Everyone thanked "Mr. Trump"
at the end (god, I hate that!). Trump started this rival pageant a few years ago, presumably to have a pool of candidates for Job Description: Wife after the current one gets too old.
I think that he took the Miss America (tm) pageant and dumbed it down even further (if that's possible). In the America pageant, the contestants have to learn to play the marimba or badly sing an aria or twirl a baton or be deaf. They have to be unmarried and not pose in playboy. And although their speeches are entirely constructed to make them sound like patriotic 1950's housewives (which is hilarious), at least they sound like they haven't sacrificed their grey matter for a size 2.
The ones in Miss USA only have to answer a question or two, strut around in a badly constructed bikini (MATCHING BIKINIS!), and I don't know for certain, but I'd bet they can be sluts, too. The above lady was was in the FINALS. They couldn't tell she was a dumb ass before the FINALS? This was probably the only time during the pageant that they had to speak.
V-- I agree with you about transcription, but this lady is D. U. M. dum. Cover up the subtitles and watch her.
My confession comes here:
I recognized the theme music of the Miss Teen USA as being the same as the Miss USA pageant. That's sad, on many levels.

She's qualified to determine our Foreign Policy, I'd say. Medal of Freedom, anyone?

I've heard Condi looks good in a bikini.

Her hemlines are certainly shorter than Maddie's (Albright).

Nope... I think the transcription helped her.
