First Place Clinch is 22, which guarantees at least a tie for first. So, 23 works too.

Over in the NL Central, the RIOT listing is a bit interesting. The Brewers are currently in second place, but even if they win all of their remaining games, it's possible that they could miss the playoffs. The third place Cards can guarantee a playoff berth with 29 additional wins.

The Central has been a lot of fun to watch.

22.

Sox win 3-2; Yanks lose 8-2: 20.
Posted by Epoisses on 2007-09-03 09:38:36 +0000
Yanks lose to Seattle: 19.
(And Seattle pulls within one of the Wild Card.)

13-10 tonite: 18.
Look for me, vrtue, CTB, respectless, austin and a bunch of spear carriers with a 'We (heart) roadsteamer' sign at tonite's

L: RIOT is to clinch a tie. Why would we wanna do that?
Posted by tgl on 2007-09-04 03:49:04 +0000
I think the algorithm is easier to calculate a clinch to tie, not that it's desirable. The avoid elimination numbers a bit more meaningful. Tampa Bay cannot win the division, even if they run the table.
Posted by tgl on 2007-09-04 03:50:27 +0000
L: If New York runs the table, it's not enough for them to guarantee a tie for first place.

5-3 Sox (attended by me, CTP, Virtue, Respectless and Austin): 17.

'Tek, Coco and Buchholz: 16.

Birds now eliminated from first place contention. Yankees still need 7 wins to tie for first.
Seattle is starting to fade. They need 4 additional wins to make the wild card, up from 2 last week.

My Brewers now back in control of their own destiny.

Saw Roadsteamer last night on Sox Appeal. Laugh riot! He chose well. I was impressed that she took him up on the hot dog eating contest.

Brewers on a roll.

So she and Roadsteamer never even really had a subsequent date after all that?

I don't have any context between the two male friends, but watching that one video made me think that the pranker was a tool (probably the prankee as well - people in the prank(ee/er)'s immediate circle are all now subject to these two guys shrapnel involuntarily). Did you see the look of glee on the prankee's face? Kinda sickening.
On one level it is humorous, but I feel bad about laughing. Messing with people on an emotional level is a little too hardcore for me. It reminds me of that Neil Labute 'In The Company Of Men' flick.
Posted by tgl on 2007-09-12 02:17:49 +0000
The prankee was acting, and bad acting at that. Yeah, it'd be crass if it was real... but I seriously doubt it.
Although, an actual marriage proposal in the middle of the fifth inning of a Yankees game? Against the Mariners? Who's the sicko?
Posted by Epoisses on 2007-09-12 05:23:37 +0000
I went back and watched the other five pranks these kids pulled on each other. They did some hilarious/brutal shit to each other, and each one escalated the war beyond proportions of the last. I can't wait to see number seven.

I know this sport's a marathon and not a race, but I'd begin to be a bit worried right around now Sox fans. And should the Yankees win this division, you'll never hear the end of it.
Posted by tgl on 2007-09-19 01:51:26 +0000
1978 was a bigger slide. Or comeback, if you prefer. The Olde Towne Teame hasn't played horribly in the second half (although the past 7 days is another thing altogether), it's the MFY playing incredibly well.
A division win is a division win, whether it's by 2 or 10 games. Or like two years ago when the season records where tied, but the MFY had an edge in the head-to-head series tally.
Posted by mahatma chani on 2007-09-19 02:12:54 +0000
I think you made my point. You brought up 78 as a "it wasn't as bad as that year" case. The Yankees fans will bring it up and so "it's deja vu all over again."
Posted by tgl on 2007-09-19 02:30:31 +0000
Un-astute Yankee fans who make poor comparisons aren't really bothersome to me.
2000! 2000! 2000!

Fucking awesome game tonight.
Right outta the Belichick school: every one of those guys was talking about staying focus (sic) and winning the division. I like it.

Six.
Can the Tigers win 5 of 6 to stay in the Wild Card race?
