Because in his 16 years on this planet, Concord High Student William Sleaster knows all the good qualities a leader the POTSA should have.
Sleaster's opinion and 2 more years ought to earn him the ability to vote.
As for the 2008 election - shouldn't McCain be courting 18+ voters?
Maybe I'm griping at both the kid's lack of respect and McCain's lack of insight in choosing a voting audience.
errrgh...

In spite of his 16 years on this planet, CHS student William Sleaster is correct.

McCain's lack of insight in choosing a voting audience.
It's not about the kids, it's about the press covering him with the kids.

Too true. And although I don't agree with McCain's politics, I do believe he's not the type to use planted questions with scripted answers or this:
PS: Does he have a boner in this picture?
PPS : eeew.

William Sleaster knows as well as I that triple posts rule.

So that "correctness" will gain Sleaster some media attention today and a US presidential vote in 2012. Until then, it just creates "news" that doesnt strike me as all that important.

Too true.
I'm glad we're talking about this instead of Bush's antics while preparing to spin the results from professional truth teller Petraeus' upcoming report. Remember when Powell was the anointed truth teller? (Yes, I read Krugman's Op-Ed yesterday).

Why is this event newsworthy? No bad feelings or spite meant to anyone - but I just don't care. there must have been something more relevant to write about than this kid...

I think we're all in vehement agreement. I blame Rupert Murdoch.

Who cares about this stupid election? We all know it doesn't matter who gets elected president of Carver. Do you really think it's gonna change anything around here: make one single person smarter or happier or nicer? The only person it does matter to is the one who gets elected. The same pathetic charade happens every year, and everyone makes the same pathetic promises just so they can put it on their transcripts to get into college. So vote for me, because I don't even want to go to college, and I don't care, and as president I won't do anything. The only promise I will make is that if elected I will immediately dismantle the student government, so that none of us will ever have to sit through one of these stupid assemblies again!…Or don't vote for me! Who cares? Don't vote at all!

Forgot about that subplot, IMDB to the rescue.

It's newsworthy to us because it's about Concord HS and a Presidential candidate, and maybe there wasn't anything better to write about than an astute 16 year old. We've already spent more words discussing it.

I meant no disrespect to Concord HS per se. Many favorite people of mine are from there- I was not understanding the media's choices here.

Clinton came to CHS in '91, if memory serves -- big media circus.

Kids + politics = media orgy! It's been that way as far back as I can remember - the cute/innocent/silly factor. Audiences eat that shit up, and talk about it at lunch the next day.

Just to clarify, the above was posted in honor of my CHS homies, Epoisses and tgl. I apologise for upsetting anyone's political sensibilities...
< sarcasm >
...now should we talk about some "real news", like rabidly anti-gay republicans and clergymen who secretly engage in hot man-on-man action?
