Rodney Harrison is a Cheater

Just saw a posting about Ankiel, where's the uproar over Harrison? I can't believe he denied that trying to speed his recovery so that he can play in games is not a "competitive advantage".

No uproar here, but not because I have a double standard. Ankiel is affecting the NL Central race, which is basically all I'm paying attention to in the sports world until college hockey season starts up (only 5 weeks!!!) I don't know or care much about football, though. I don't think I'd even heard the name Rodney Harrison until yesterday. So, I don't feel qualified to say anything about him or his situation.

I think there's disappointment, really. But then again, last year Shawn Merriman of the Chargers got hit with the same charges, served the same suspension, and still was considered a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year. Alas, these drugs are a part of all major sports. Golf is the next sport to have names affixed to HGH, aparently. At this point we have to learn how to control it and make sure these guys aren't completely fucked after their careers are done.

Tell me the next Merrimack College game you're going to, I'll be there (or are you a U-Lowell fan?).

The physical nature of the game itself fucks these guys. More drugs in sports, I say. How many firefighters and cops take steroids, you think? Actually, make that Staties.

In Ankeil's defense, he (allegedly) did HGH before it was a banned substance, in 2004.

So, performance enhancing drugs are OK as long as MLB hasn't banned them. MLB (and its fans) grasp of ethics is tenuous here. You can't excuse Ankeil's behavior while condemning Bonds'.

What if Advil suddenly became part of the banned list? How 'bout caffeine? Red Bull?

L: Bob Ryan weighs in.

I'm fine with drugs in the MLB. What would 70's ball be without the little green pill?

This is where I start groaning: Ankiel took possession of this substance (true, no record of his using it) via false prescriptions. However, since it's not on the "banned list", the same people poo-pooing Bonds are giving Ankiel a ticket to ride.

I'm with you on this, actually -- didn't realize the false prescription was part of it.

Primarily a Lowell fan. Will root for The Mack in a pinch. Tsongas Arena: section F, row 2, seat 8. Every game.
