Bestow it, myself. The whole innocent until proven guilty thing tipped the vote.

ditto.

SUN RA was a wise man. Space is the Place. Blast that Mofo out of here, unless you want MLB to become "entertainment" instead of "sports".
Can't wait to watch the WWE when I get home tonight...

Baseball is a game. It is not a sport. So... entertainment.
Ditto, MC: Bestow.

Q: what do you do with a record-setting baseball?
Posted by tgl on 2007-09-17 09:33:23 +0000
If the baseball itself is record-setting, that'd be impressive. Maybe Mint-eye-chart knows.
But a baseball that a record was set with... a collector's item.
Posted by emitime on 2007-09-17 09:44:21 +0000
you're joking, right?
Posted by tgl on 2007-09-17 09:59:06 +0000
MC does not joke! Since Bonds hasn't been convicted of possession of banned substance... I don't see what's the problem. Especially since MLB tacitly approved the use of steroids in the late 90s and early Aughts.
Posted by MF DU on 2007-09-17 15:04:27 +0000
The only thing cool about bestowing would be if Cooperstown just assures Bond's entourage that they have "top men" working on it and then it gets buried in some archival basement just like the Ark of the Covenant, except Indiana Jones wont give two craps about what happens to Bond's cheater ball.
Posted by MF DU on 2007-09-17 15:15:34 +0000
Games and sports can be entertaining but is baseball as a medium supposed to be 100% entertainment? It is a competition between two separate sides of athletes, right? Unless 100% of all players are using performance enhancing drugs, than all these steroid players are tainting the game. Bonds made his bed...
Posted by tgl on 2007-09-17 15:49:13 +0000
Of course baseball is supposed to be 100% entertainment! Why would entrepreneurs at the turn of last century create leagues? If it's not for entertainment that creates revenue, then it's wealthy individuals spending hundreds of millions of dollars to determine who's the best at hitting a white sphere with a stick?
Unless 100% of enterprises claim a section 5-A 345(d) government levy exemption, then the free market collapses!
The MLB made Bonds' bed...

how about, brand it, then blast it into space from the roof of the hall of fame?
Posted by cdubrocker on 2007-09-18 00:51:18 +0000
Branding is a must.

I think I owe respectless a beer for the above post.
Posted by tgl on 2007-09-18 01:39:16 +0000
Someone, please, lend me a period.
Posted by emitime on 2007-09-18 09:17:48 +0000
2 beers at that
Posted by MF DU on 2007-09-18 15:04:52 +0000
actually 3 beers is my debt - because location of launch is Cooperstown's Roof!

Huge props for not going the Hall of Fame?
I guess so. It's what people voted for, and maybe he understands people don't want him in the hall without the asterisk, but I think his ego's too big for that.
I still like Pete Rose too, I suppose.
Posted by Epoisses on 2007-11-02 14:30:12 +0000
His ego is so big that he refers to himself as "Barry Bonds."
Posted by ConorClockwise on 2007-11-02 17:08:40 +0000
From the article: "No one's going to take the love of that city of me away, ever."
Posted by cdubrocker on 2007-11-02 17:14:00 +0000
Wow, I totally misread that the first time around. That really is some ego he has. I'm pretty fine with him boycotting the HoF.
Posted by MF DU on 2007-11-03 00:51:29 +0000
Who cares if Bonds boycotts the Hall of fame? did Bonds make a press confrence to enlighten the world with this wonderful piece of info? What a dick.
"You cannot give people the freedom, the right to alter history*. You can't do it. There's no such thing as an asterisk in baseball."*Unless you use steroids when its not documented that everyone else in MLB is using steroids.
Posted by tgl on 2007-11-03 01:07:26 +0000
There's no such thing as an asterisk in baseball
Ahh, but there is such a thing as an asterisk on a baseball. I don't care wait they say Barry, but you should stick with hitting.
