Sounds like fun, but that's generally a hectic time for me at work. Just before I get a delegation of teens from across the world for two weeks. Really love canoe trips, though. Enjoy!
Posted by pchippy on 2008-01-04 13:11:48 +0000
Oh, I will.
Assuming I can find anyone to go with me.
Posted by ConorClockwise on 2008-01-04 13:45:12 +0000
You know I want to. Man, do I want to...
Posted by pchippy on 2008-01-07 03:03:51 +0000
And?
Posted by pchippy on 2008-01-07 03:05:47 +0000
Added a bunch of day/weekend excursions to the calendar. Would love to see other, non-chippy events posted.

If work doesn't provide release time for the conferences that I was planning to go to this summer, I'm on this like a fly on shit. or a black fly on me, as they case may be.

Hey, any chance of a repeat visit to Amsterdam? We will shortly have a fold-out couch, and my cooking skills are semi-unstoppable...
Posted by virtue on 2008-01-07 16:11:41 +0000
These conferences are in Kuala Lumpur and Perth, though I would *love* to go back to Amsterdam.
Posted by pamsterdam on 2008-01-07 16:40:07 +0000
Oh, awesome! I hope you get 'em both. And definitely schedule holiday time around those babies - woo!
Posted by virtue on 2008-01-07 17:09:51 +0000
The two conferences are actually scheduled in sync, and the idea would be to go to Malaysia, spend a week on the beach overcoming my jet lack, conference for a week, then go to bali and learn to surf for a week, and then go on to Australia.
But the airfare is pricey, as are the conferences, and I wouldn't get any financial support from the library, unless they give me release time. It's one thing to shell out a whole bunch of money for professional development if it's work time, but another thing entirely if it's vacation time.
Posted by pamsterdam on 2008-01-07 18:41:49 +0000
I am seething with jealousy.
But I still hope they give you release!
Look into an "around the world" ticket if you can - it gives you unlimited stops if you continue travelling in one direction (roughly East or roughly West) and is usually cheaper than all the little flights glommed together separately. E-mail me separately if it comes down to it and you want any help finding the best deal.

Would a request/demand for some sort of festive gathering or rock show during my February visit to Boston be considered an "event" worthy of said calendar? Probably not, but I figured I'd ask.
Posted by pchippy on 2008-01-07 19:06:58 +0000
dates?
Can't put anything on the calendar without knowing when it will happen.
Visits by foreign dignitaries certainly are worthy of being considered "events."
Posted by G lib on 2008-01-07 20:00:46 +0000
here here!
Especially if said dignitary is a rock star.

Aw, sweet! Y'all know how to make a grrrl feel welcome.
The plan is to arrive on February 15th and stay until February 23rd, although I may decide to come a few days earlier. And I'll naturally spend at least part of that time in NH with the Pamsterdam Clan. But my schedule's pretty open - apart from the 19th, when I absolutely have to be with the Pam-Dam-Clan (would've been Mum's 77th).
Updated to add: I think I've just committed myself to 19-21 in NH and 21-23 in NYC, so it looks like 15-19 will be my Boston time...

Monday the 18th it is. Does that work for everyone?
Posted by G lib on 2008-01-08 16:27:26 +0000
If my mom and Miriam don't keep me up too late the night before, I'm down. (if all goes well, we should be back in Boston by 4:22)
Posted by Miriam on 2008-01-08 16:31:37 +0000
I'll try not to keep y'all out line dancing too late!
Posted by dyedon8 on 2008-01-08 22:04:11 +0000
I'll be teaching on the 18th-- wanna come?
Then we'll Make Monday Tuesday at some point that night, too. holla!
Posted by Miriam on 2008-01-08 22:05:47 +0000
Wish I could, but I'll still be in Nashville.

Said Rock Event Would be cool - are you still down for an 'End of Radio' guest appearance? I presume right now Im still Thursday nights 8-10, but I am at the mercy of the program director...
Posted by pamsterdam on 2008-01-09 16:53:21 +0000
Oh, awesome! I'll try to finagle an arrival in time to be there for Thursday night...
Edited to add:
Oops! Just realised what that Thursday is (February 14th). I don't think I can get away with taking a 10-day vacation without The Boy *and* skipping out on VD. And the following Thursday I think I'll be in NYC. But The Boy and I will be back in May for a wedding in Maine - perhaps we can go via your neck o' the woods?
Posted by pamsterdam on 2008-01-09 09:13:46 +0000
OBVIOUSLY I want to come! Great! Utterly, utterly fab.
Posted by pchippy on 2008-01-09 15:00:49 +0000
When's the class? Will it conflict with the highly detailed plan I posted here? I'd really like for a pubby meal and drinks of some sort to be part of the Pamsterplan, especially for the sake of those of us who aren't likely to stay up late enough to Make Monday Tuesday.
Posted by pamsterdam on 2008-01-09 15:06:16 +0000
Ooooh, dinner and drinks. Pchippy, you obviously know the way to my heart.
dd8, would you be cross if I "skip class" to engage in two of my favourite pursuits? Spending time with early bedtime people is also VERY high on my list of priorities.
Posted by dyedon8 on 2008-01-09 18:00:32 +0000
Class is from 6 to 8:30 -- a break happens in the middle. So, if dinner is in Davis, we could finagle it. If not, no biggie.
Posted by pchippy on 2008-01-09 18:10:39 +0000
How about this: First half of class, followed by dinner at the Burren for everyone who isn't teaching in the second half of class, followed by beverages (still at the Burren) for everyone and dinner for the prof, followed by homegoing and bedtime for early-to-bedders and Wadsworthgoing and MondayTuesdaymaking for late-to-bedders?
Posted by pamsterdam on 2008-01-09 18:23:09 +0000
You, sir, are a genius.
Posted by pamsterdam on 2008-01-14 16:52:39 +0000
Dumb (and somewhat OCD) question, pchippy:
How do I RSVP? I'd like to bring Big Gay Mark with me, and it also occurs to me that if a reservation needs to be made at the Burren, the reserver should know how many people are attending...
...then again, it's for a Monday night and maybe I should just chill.
Posted by dyedon8 on 2008-01-14 16:57:31 +0000
It's the Burren on a Monday -- it'll be okay.
Posted by pamsterdam on 2008-01-14 17:01:34 +0000
Yeah, I've been working in the travel/tourism sector for way too long.
Thanks, man.

I defer to d8's authoritative assuagement.

Presidents Day -- no class. More beer for the clown!
Posted by pamsterdam on 2008-01-25 10:31:50 +0000
February 18th is Presidents' Day? (Or is it President's Day?) ROCK! We're gonna haver all over the place. Whatever that means...
Pity about missing class, though. :o( <--- (sad clown)
Posted by pamsterdam on 2008-03-07 06:41:44 +0000
I've been trying to remember where "more beer for the clown" comes from... I have a vague feeling that I first heard it the night we went to some place in Portsmouth where Stricken were playing, and you & Uncle Jay sang "The Scottish Drinking Song" - which involved the lyrics, "And you drink, and you drink, and you drink, and you DIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Todd may or may not have joined in, with mixed results.
Posted by dyedon8 on 2008-03-07 07:06:28 +0000
The aforementioned drinking song was stolen wholesale from a Denis Leary CD.
I will defer to Mr. Rory Stark re: the telling of the 'More Beer For the Clown' story, as he owns that shit.
Rory?
