Eric in the Evening Appreesh

Eric in the Evening @ WGBH Pharoah Sanders in the last set, ~10:15pm tonight. Duke Ellington coming up. We've got 'GBH tuned in most of the time, but sometimes, we get stuck on 'BUR. Jackson justifies my contribution, and makes a strong case for soldering the dial in place.

I enjoyed WGBH's bumpers on Jackson preceding K. Burns's Jazz a few years back. I always thought his program made for good driving music to boot.

I've got a lingering Pavlovian response to Eric's theme song--that long, slow, lingering, sweet tune was what I used to hear every evening in my hobbit hole during my first year in Boston, after I came home from work. I associate it with dinner, and a bottle or two of homebrew, and solitary contemplation. I hear the tune start up (though it's at 8PM now, right? Not 7PM as it used to be) and instantly I relax.

I used to paint in the Malbert basement with him cranked up, beer in hand, already drunk from the party that Mahatma Chani and I had attended, enjoying every last minute and every last drop.
