Renovations at The Model

Whoah. In the front room, the pool table has been taken out and replaced by two ornate tables. In the back, the round tables have been replaced by (I shit you not) fake ostrich skin banquettes, both the side rail and booths are now rectangular (maybe fake?) marble tables. All of the photos have come down. In the back, there are these round red lights that look like portholes. Whoah.

How come there aren't any brothers on the wall?

Did the ownership change hands? Or are they just dripping with extra cash and decided to pimp out the place? Is emo over? Has the vegan punk scene been usurped? Was the practice space down the street closed down? Is the next move to replace it with a Pacific Sun shop, then a bank?

Twin Donuts is still there but the old Dunkin sign on Market/Beacon is history.

Folks are trying to save it, but unfortunately it won't be back in the original spot.

I would guess that they're trying to generate more business with the college crowd. Emo will NEVER FUCKING DIE, ya ingrate. Now excuse me while I go weep about the seasons changing.

Posted by Miriam on 2008-01-21 21:01:48 +0000
Emo may not die, but can you tell me where it still lives?

Posted by Miriam on 2008-01-21 21:05:37 +0000
I waited for many busses under that sign. When the 86 clearly wasn't on time I would wait there. Or if I needed to take the bus to Central, I would wait there...until I realized just how far out of the way I was going and that I could wait across from the Kwik Mart (I think that's what it was called) about two blocks behind the Malbert. Always a shame when character-less signs replace landmarks.

I have learned sometimes a need can run too deep and we throw away the things we most wanted to keep and inside we lie over and over again - This Time...... If you don't now you'd better learn to believe me when I say I'm going to build a wall around this town Around these hearts and hands.

Emo lives in you, dyedon8...it lives in you!

Wait, so no more pool table at all?

Posted by Rory_Stark on 2008-01-21 22:11:07 +0000
That is correct.

Posted by Rory_Stark on 2008-01-21 22:11:30 +0000
That is correct.

Hey TGL, For some reason when I go to comment it's still showing 8080.

Posted by Rory_Stark on 2008-01-21 22:15:00 +0000
So I have to delete the 8080 and then it post's. Sometimes twice. I wonder if TGL gives a hoot about this thread.

Posted by tgl on 2008-01-22 00:56:00 +0000
No, but I care about you, Rory_Stark.

Posted by dyedon8 on 2008-01-22 01:28:12 +0000
In all of us, really.

Posted by MF DU on 2008-01-22 02:38:38 +0000
FWIW: The rideside url sans 8080 thing is intermittent with success on my computer (PC, Windows XP, Firefox, broadband connection) as well. Seems to be better right now than early, and I'm sure there is a large margin of 'Ladew User' error if you will. As usual, I will probably understand more later.

Posted by tgl on 2008-01-22 04:26:00 +0000
The requests are being forwarded, so that might be slowing things down. I might have to remove the forwarding and get back to 8080. My goal is to move the site to the webhost now doing the forwarding. Thought I could do it in steps, maybe not. Just don't double-click.

That sounds like what I remember of the White Horse Tavern (where my foofy EF colleagues used to drag me). Ick.

Posted by Rory_Stark on 2008-01-22 09:06:52 +0000
Ref!?!

Posted by tgl on 2008-01-22 15:51:24 +0000
I think I just scoured the last 8080 from the config files. Better?

Posted by tgl on 2008-01-22 15:58:31 +0000
You first. Sorry that my handle isn't post-ironic (or post-post-ironic, are we now post-snark??), but it's still my handle.

Posted by pamsterdam on 2008-01-22 16:23:59 +0000
Um, ouch?

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW!

Posted by Rory_Stark on 2008-01-22 19:12:28 +0000
If I could edit both comments I would, but I can't. It's a simple mistake given your handle. I guess it's time to put ol' Rory out to pasture.

Posted by tgl on 2008-01-22 19:37:45 +0000
Edited No one will know!

Posted by Rory_Stark on 2008-01-22 20:29:50 +0000
Shit's fixed by the by.

Posted by tgl on 2008-01-22 20:43:32 +0000
