Anthrax is to Neurosis as D.R.I. is to ...?

Let's just agree for a moment that there is indeed a "thrash" spectrum. That being the case, what are the terminal points? Secondly, is Neurosis more like Anthrax or D.R.I.? I've nonchalantly picked Anthrax "Among the Living" over D.R.I. "Four of a Kind" in the past. Not that I could tell you how either of those tunes go. Back in reality: We all know that to even consider Neurosis in the same breath as Anthrax or D.R.I. is unthinkable. (Anthrax fans, let me have it.)

I have no way of answering Terry aside from agreeing that Neurosis (sedna) is pretty fuckin far away from Anthrax (mars) Heres a bold uneducated and highly biased opinion on what Thrash meant to me in like 9th grade: -Slayer -Death Angel -Suicidal Tendencies (s/t and Join the Army at least..) -D.R.I. (Have you heard 5 year plan on 'Crossover' or anything on 4 of a kind? Dated? yes... but one of the first marriages of hardcore and metal - my 16 yr old self thought they were Thrash atleast... side note: Mr. Bungle used to cover "I Don't Need Society" from the first LP me and Glumac severely overplayed in high school... I think I also remember something about Reaganomics killing me killing you LOL..) -Megadeth pre 1987 - Metallica pre 1984 -and yes, Anthrax.... Other Metal subgenres I have interest in: Grindcore (Napalm Death 'Scum' and Peel Sessions circa 1986-1988, God Flesh, Naked City "Torture Garden") Sci Fi / Prog / Cyber Metal (Im making this up probably so bear with me): Voivod (Dimension Hatross, etc) -Don't know too much about black metal or the church burners or the dying fetus / cradle of filth crowd. A lot of the fringe metal perspective I see is from the Rev. Aaron Pepelis, longtime host of WUNH's Return to the Pit www.returntothepit.com check the rev's photo archive... this kid goes to more shows than anyone (not all metal either: Q and Not U Garrison, Tomahawk, Dalek, you name it...)

Dude, I have a Sedna t-shirt. Do we give Cave-In two planets? "...heart stops" is Pluto, "Jupiter" is, well, Jupiter?

You've got Sedna AND Neurosis shirts! Anyway, black metal tends to incorporate a little bit in the way of synth (like Cradle of Filth.) There's a little bit of crossover, too, with some of the spastic screamy punk stuff, too- mostly early-to-mid-90's stuff on Gravity and Old glory and Ebuillition.

this thread rules. metal rules. I guess I do agree with the sentiment that metal will be around for us all in between all the ebbing and flowing trends of the moment... I got to wear my Return to the Pit hoodie yesterday (before I went to work natch) while I took out the trash... It was soooo cold!!!!
