The "I Hate Julio Lugo Thread"
So can anybody tell me why Lugo is better than Edgar Renteria? They couldn't ship rent-a-wreck out of town fast enough, while Lugo makes as many errors, and his hitting has been abyssmal for his entire stay in Boston. Add to that that he doesn't even look disappointed when he strikes out or hits into an inning ending double-play. The guy has no fire in his belly.
Baseball logic says that he plays because he makes $9M/yr. But, shouldn't you always put the players out who give you the best chance to win, no matter how much the guy on the pine earns? Plus the Sox (still) pay about $6M/yr. of Rent's salary.
Lugo's sox stats:
2007 - .237 BA, .294 OBP, 8 HR, 73 RBI. / .968 FP, 19 Errors
2008 - .293 BA, .354 OBP, 0 HR, 8 RBI. / .920 FP, 10 Errors
Renteria's sox stats:
2006 - .270 BA, .335 OBP, 8 HR, 70 RBI. / .954 FP, 30 Errors
