2008 AL East Standings

Just noticing that the MFY are 7 games behind the (Saintly) Rays. What up, Toronto? Thought this was your year? Whew, almost a third of the season gone. Time flies.

Kid phenom Joba Chamberlain was all sorts of overrated tonight.

I'll pose the question to those who know baseball better: I was under the impression Joba was supposed to be Rivera's successor. Now the hyperbolic media has made him into a combination of Koufax, Clemens and Young. What are the Yankees thinking? And while I'm here, is Alex Rodriguez this generation's Don Mattingly?

A-Rod v. Mattingly: similar in that they're terrific ballplayers who played for the Yankees and failed to get a WS ring. Mattingly was a career Yankee, though. A-Rod (like Giambi and Mussina) went for the money and the ring. Mattingly stuck around, and the Yankees weren't very good for a lot of his tenure.

Mattingly played in (count 'em) one playoff series, where he went 10 for 24 with 3 runs and a homer. Kinda sad really.

The Hutt was being groomed as the next Mariano before they Yankees started sucking wind and Hank Steinbrenner hit the panic button.

Yeah, that's what I thought. So why the panicking?

Injuries, last place: the basement era.
