Video editing software

Can someone give me a brief rundown of cheap/free/standard on some computers video editing software? Essentially I'm looking for something REALLY EASY, that I can figure out how to use quickly-- clip drag and drop stuff. I have some old lady interviews that I need to make clips of. I run a PC, but could get access to a Mac.

I know avid makes good stuiff - my Mom used to freelance for them as a pr type of writer. No idea of freeness or cheapness, though. what about rory? doesen't he still do editing stuff? re: old lady interviews - a likely story.
