That Conservative Broadsheet....

...The NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/21/opinion/21brooks.html The best part is how Brooks says we can start talking about Iraq now that Kerry has chosen a stance, when actually Kerry was actually talking about Iraq (Falluja, Moktada al-Sadr, mercinaries, unemployment in Baghdad, etc)

Yes! Recognition that there are conservative voices on the Op-ed. page of the NYT. I haven't read the text of Kerry's speech. I have read conservative commentary (Thoughts on Kerry), that Kerry was posing anti-war. Which he isn't, just that this Administration has it completely bungled.

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/22/opinion/22safi.html Any paper that prints stuff like this, CANNOT possibly be considered left of center.

Further recognition that Safire writes for the NYT! I guess it's not Dawn I'm trying to get to see the light here, but hey, I'll take it. NYT gives equal space to Krugman and Herbert. I'll continue to maintain that on the Op-ed. page, the NYT presents cogent, lucid opinions on both sides of the fence.

http://mediamatters.org/items/200410070005 NY Times executive editor, Bill Keller, caught with more dishonest right-wing spin. Pitiful...

Wow, they endorse Kerry. This is big... http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/17/opinion/17sun1.html?ex=1255665600&en=4273d1a9760f9069&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland

what a surprise....

The more conservative news papers that endorse Kerry, the more his election will cross party lines. Then maybe we can have a government that gets things done, instead of bickering and playing the spin game.

Posted by rladew on 2004-10-17 20:09:34 +0000
I would argue that the inverse of yr statement would be correct.

Posted by tgl on 2004-10-17 20:17:35 +0000
That less conservative papers endorsing Kerry will help him with Republican voters? Or That Kerry with the support of fiscal conservatives will still not get things done? Personally, I'm hoping for more gridlock, then we won't get so many bills stuffed with Republican pork-barrel policies.

A lot more liberal-leaning papers endorsing Bush as a candidate with more substance over Kerry's style basically is what I meant...

A summary of various newspaper endorsements (no surprise where the Globe went as it is owned by the times) http://cbs2chicago.com/politics/politicsnational_story_291094736.html

I thought Dawn and Terry would get a kick out of this Conservative endorsement for Kerry: http://www.amconmag.com/2004_11_08/cover1.html

Re: Summary The Chicago Tribune is a liberal newspaper? I don't liberal rags supporting Bush coming to fruition. Re: Conservatives Supporting Kerry I don't get a kick out of it, because I've been adament in my claim that Bush has completely divorced himself from traditional conservative values.

Posted by rladew on 2004-10-19 10:12:44 +0000
but you don't agree with it? I thought that your adamancy regarding Bush's lack of conservatism was a part of yr argument. When I read this, I felt as though this was similiar to the argument you were presenting... Am I wrong? (I could very well be...happens all the time... just ask Jackie)

Posted by tgl on 2004-10-19 16:50:20 +0000
Yeah, I agree with it. I was saying that I not surprised to see conservatives reach the same conclusions, since I think it's a valid conclusion. More from the NYT! <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/19/opinion/19brooks.html"David Brooks echoes rladews comments about not believing in Kerry. That's right next to Krugman's piece on why Bush is lieing about re-instating the draft, but, hey, parity.

Dang. <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/19/opinion/19brooks.html"David Brooks ...Maybe this no-edit thing is a problem....

Posted by tgl on 2004-10-19 16:51:29 +0000
Double dang. David Brooks

Drudgereport is reporting that Safire is leaving the NY Times....

Posted by bizquig3000 on 2004-11-16 03:45:18 +0000
any word who the token conservative (for the Op-Ed page) will be?

Posted by tgl on 2004-11-16 07:15:18 +0000
...and you classify David Brooks as?

Posted by dawnbixtler on 2004-11-17 05:40:40 +0000
Thank you tgl. Was that a "token" by BG?
