Rock out Goteborg

I find myself in Goteborg, Sweden for a few days on business. Maybe I'll check out Bad Religion & NOFX tonight. Or on Saturday, Converge. So far, I've sampled a few Swedish brews (above average Pils, but you'd expect that), gotten hooked on snus, and had the local flat fish (but not Swedish Fish). The sun sets at quarter past ten, and a pint of beer for $8.50 is considered a good deal.

Goteborg is awesome. Try to go to Sjomagasinet down by the harbor for dinner while you're there, and ask them to provide you with the tasting menu (a different wine with each of the 5 courses). I know it's expensive. It's also the best food & wine I have ever, ever had. If you want someone to watch soccer with, I can hook you up with a really nice guitar/mandolin player with an astounding alcohol tolerance.

Wow, thanks for the tip. 795 kronar is a bit steep, but when's the next time I'll be in Goteborg?

Tunnbrodsrulle. You will want one of these while you're there.

I would love to see NOFX -- never got a chance. Bad Religion is a lot of fun.

Have a great time! I have some long-lost friends up there somewhere. If you run into a blond girl named Johanna, tell her I say hello. :) Or a Thai girl named Sara. I think there was also Thomas and Johann. Ah, 1986...we met in Roskilde, Denmark. From my recollection, Thomas was into metal. And it blew me away that the girls were already waxing their legs. I barely understood how to shave mine at that point!

Done. Turns out Gothenborg is not the best place to get a tunnbrodsrulle.

Sjomagasinet is the "best of the best" said my Swedish colleague, the most expensive restaurant in town. I went to Fiskekrogen, the "best of the rest". Unfortunately, I screwed up my order, starting off with a giant platter of cold mussels, langoustines and räka (shrimp). I begged off the entree, rather the waiter suggested nixing the entree and I agreed. The plattar was good, and a local favorite I take it. But it wasn't "cuisine". I still dropped $100.

Sorry tgl - as per usual my father's long-ago critique of my approach to life is still ringing in my ears: "Champagne taste on a Coca-Cola budget." The exchange rate doesn't help, either. I'm glad you enjoyed Fiskekrogen's gigantic fish platter!

Actually, it was the need to take a cab that was more daunting, plus the admonition on the website that a reservation was required. I could walk to Fiskekrogen.
