Several - alright, many - years ago in the North End I decided to spend the evening drinking Campari straight up, as I'd read Shane McGowan does. After all, who doesn't want to emulate the drinking habits of a self-loathing, self-destructive, nearly toothless, raging alcoholic, eh?
Suffice it to say that I haven't touched the stuff since, although I remember admiring its time-saving quality of already tasting like vomit.

I've never taken it neat, but on the rocks is a fine preparation. Especially if you're standing next to a hot girl. Oops... I mean "hot grill".

I'll try it, tgl, but I can't promise I'll have the same reaction to the hot girl, er, grill.
Reminds me, though, of a comment one of my friends made about you many moons ago: "Oh, tgl? Is he the Chris-Issak-with-glasses guy?"
Trust me, it was a compliment. You must've been drinking Campari neat that night.
