Not to throw water on your party... but having Bush agree with your position on the issues might not be a good thing. Especially in an election year. But then again, the McCain campaign is fairly clear on the topic of <a href="http://www.drudge.com/news/111884/mccain-manager-election-not">issues</a> in an election.

Yeah, I said it: Bush is trying to throw the election to "Maverick" McCain by making policy decisions that hew Democratic.

It's still the right thing to do.

Sure, the right thing to do - FINALLY. The maddening part is the timing, and the convenient omission that there were certain folks who've been pushing for this sort of thing for how long? Election-time maneuvering.

If Bush is interested in getting Iraq & Afghanistan right, he might be more hopeful of an Obama Administration. All indications show that McCain's policies in the Middle East might be even worse than Bush's. To be far, the part of McCain's acceptance speech regarding avoiding war at all costs was argued with (com)passion and conviction.

I forget where I read the comment... McCain should be running for Senate Majority Leader. He's more likely to end earmarks in that position than as President.

MFGR shares my sentiment, only he <a href="http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/09/a-first.html">thinks it's more Obama</a> that the Democratic Party.
