Hey, TGL

Who is that Obama ad intended to sway? Me and DU? I think that it's probably safe to say everybody else on the board is punching the Democrat ticket.

Lorbering: JohnMcCain.com

Yeah. Not thrilled. I dont own or maintain the url though, so it doesn't matter too much what I think.

Also: maybe Its just my crappy screen display, but putting extra stuff (ahem political ads) on the left side of the rsn margin totally fucks up the center display lines in the recent posts section and would arguably give fans of symmetry a strong case of the howling fantods.

Good point.

I don't think this necessarily warrants a response, but: 1. I like it. 2. As much as this is our website, it's my resource. 3. It did cross my mind that some users might not enjoy the button. Then I thought "That'd be their problem". 4. The center column is now more constrained, sorry. 5. I'm trying to sway people googling for talking heads immersion.

SWAY people? Fuck that -- Talking Heads Immersion BUTTON!

"I'm so glad I have you to feed me my political opinions and thought process. I should probably stop reading papers , watching the news, and reading / making posts. It doesn't seem to be necessary since you've got me all figured out."

Are the quotes there to signify your own words, or is that the caption for the picture you posted? -------

"Posted by rladew at 2005 Dec 9 - 7:16am" I thought it was an apt response to your guess that "everybody else on the board is punching the Democrat ticket". Having never done that, I'm probably not going to this year either. Any reason you're touting McCain? Just to be different/funny?

Posted by MF DU on 2008-10-19 03:23:57 +0000
WOW- I didn't think that Obama's central stragety of tarring McCain with Bush would work its way to a bizarre paralell RSN thread with a 3 year old post, but there it is. I think tgl is absolutely right that this is his url and his choice alone to make. I think I see where tgl is coming from when he says he didn't think mahatama's post didn't warrant a response. But I hope that doesn't mean it is widely thought on rsn that mahatma's thread didnt warrant discussion. A noticeable change was made on rsn and mahatma noticed what was supposed to be noticed. To me, an ad feels like the end of discussion. I guess another thing I like about the Wall Street Journal is it's refusal to endorse either political party.

Posted by tgl on 2008-10-19 11:01:00 +0000
Ultimately, not displaying the image felt like self-censorship.

<sarcasm>It's pretty amazing how incredibly impossible it is to tell which way the WSJ editorial board leans.</sarcasm>

Posted by tgl on 2008-10-19 11:28:00 +0000
Clearly, the discussion hasn't ended. My initial reluctance may be due to the OP's pissy tone. Especially in reaction to an individual making a decision about the use of a private resource. I know that's a bit high-minded to describe an image on a podunk web-board, but hey: If you can't trust a Republican to understand the free market, who can you trust?

Posted by tgl on 2008-10-19 11:53:00 +0000
Hey, MC: I don't intend to sway any one. I assure you it's not a personal appeal to you are anyone else. It's merely a signifier of support and an indicator to other like-minded individuals. I've been thinking about the efficacy of lawn signs lately -- I got one of those too, so, maybe you shouldn't stop by for another couple weeks. ;)

Naw it's cool... Everybody's entitled to their own opinion/viewpoint. Question: how many Sarah Palins are we gonna see at Halloween parties this year? With the Sarah Palin trump the Sexy Cat as this year's most-popular costume for women? -------

Posted by virtue on 2008-10-19 14:38:29 +0000
Personally, I'm waiting to see if anyone can successfully pull off the sexy cat/sarah palin costume. Do cat suits even come in power-suit red?

Posted by mr. mister on 2008-10-19 19:06:38 +0000
Who did G go as for Halloween one year. It was a party in Allston at Mike U's apartment. The costume was some political figure and then there was a surprise underneath. classic.

Hadassah Lieberman

Replacing WSJ with RSN yields the same result.

Made my day! Thanks, respectless. Hey, tgl - is the big pink P for pamsterdam?! Yay!

Posted by tgl on 2008-10-20 16:24:00 +0000
I don't disagree, but that's not my point: I don't get what's laudatory about the WSJ practice. There is an implicit endorsement when every opinion piece is pro-Republican. Give the NYTimes and the Glob credit for publishing Brooks, Kristol, and Jacoby. Who does the WSJ publish that is as far-left as Kristol is far-right? ...wait a minute, does the NYTimes or Glob endorse political parties? I don't think so. Candidates, yes. Parties, no.

Posted by tgl on 2008-10-20 16:24:42 +0000
It is now.

Where's the love, tgl? Where's the love? My big pink P is gone. I'm beginning to suspect that it wasn't for 'pamsterdam' at all, but in support of a certain baseball team. Hm...
