1997 was a big year for me too, but... not sure the best stuff is fit to print.

I turned 21. It might have been my crappiest birthday ever. I smoked a lot of pot, and was introduced to the joys of white water rafting.

I'd have to dig deep in my brain to try and remember the key points of my 1997 life. Off the top of my head I remember that:
I drank tons of coffee
I started my first "real" job in a blood lab at B&W Hospital
I moved into my first apartment (Inman Square)
I may have met G lib, pchippy, propagandatour, MC (among others - tgl? CC? Miriam?) that year - or it could have been '98
I visited Rochester, MA, for the first time when my parents moved there
I'll add more facts if I think of them.

L: and virtue - 97 or 98?
Posted by virtue on 2008-11-25 17:16:44 +0000
76+21=97.

Oh boy.
*Thought that I graduated college
*Started waiting tables at the Toast
*Moved to Wadsworth with Joe and Dina
*Slung brownies at Fanuel Hall
*Got a job at Newbury Comics
I went through old Frame 609 entries recently. What a trip 1997 was.

L: my old Yahoo e-mails only go back to 2000...I have some old ones on floppy disks. Do floppy disk drives still exist? I'm not sure, but I don't think my laptop has one. Those 1997 e-mails may be lost for good!

Even if you have access to a floppy disc drive, there's still a really good chance that it it isn't readable. Sorry.

Where'd you meet Ginger?

3819 Beecher ST NW
Its the address on the back of all the Dischord cds - it was literally 2 streets over from where I lived in Glover Park near Georgetown (basement of a rowhouse).
I took a walk one night and all the mail goes there - Ginger greeted me at the door.
Pesky kids - that must have gotten old...

And (not on Strnds) I got back with G Lib.

began the year having an angsty, writing-in-the-corner semi-mental breakdown on the fringes of a party at my friend's house
visited boston for the first time in march, as part of a whirlwind college visting tour (12 schools, 6 days, 100% insanity)
broke my finger (or really, anna bracewell broke my finger) in weight training class: first broken bone.
played rapunzel in Into The Woods
friends all graduated from high school...but not me, one year behind.
went to grand marais, MN with two closest friends: oh the donuts.
went to nantucket, MA with same friends
went to boston, MA with best friend in the world...with whom i was also completely in love, though i was convinced i'd reprogrammed myself out of that; truth came out before we left.
first relationship based on the Miracle of Mutual Understanding (instead of the first adolescent miracle, the Miracle of Mutual Attraction)
more college visiting - including a huge fight with my mom on the way from boston to new york
applying to college - ugh
first time getting sufficiently drunk to puke my guts out (twice) - totally overrated experience.
college apps in, stop giving a damn about much of anything
turn 18 - whoooo.

Two different cars. Lea survived, Muffin did not.

The beginning of 1997!
Lived in Plymouth, England in CTP's student apartment
Worked as a temp secretary in the trailer headquarters of a company putting in a water? sewer? pipeline
Burly men in boots whose accents I never understood brought me daffodils almost daily
Partied HAAARD
Partied HAAAAAAAAAAAAARDER
Did a small hitch hiking trip around Southwest England
Stayed in a homeless shelter on their living room floor
Came home destitute, and lived with my parents, who thought I was on drugs
In fact, I had left drugs behind in England
Worked as a temp at the Corporate headquarters of St@ples, inc.
Carpooled with my dad in the family van
Went the wrong way around a rotary on my way to see a show at The Space
Decided that I didn't like driving
Realized it was time to leave St@ples when they offered me a permanent job

I think we met in either 1998 or 9-- because I don't even think I hung out with MC until 1998, and being friends with him was the catalyst for meeting you.
Posted by TheFullCleveland on 2008-11-26 21:41:40 +0000
OK - so my timeline is really wayyy off. My parents didn't move to Rochester until 2001. And you're right - it was probably '98 (and some of you '99) that I met y'all. Now that I'm remembering more clearly...'97 was a depressed year, so I'm not remembering much. (though everything else above is accurate)
