Tuesday's purchases

"Smile" is pretty sick. Listened to twice now. Lots of bs, but fully listenable. Realizing lyrics are still the weak point (none written by Wilson), but melodies crushing. A tad on the concept album/rock opera/ magical mystery tour side? "Good Vibrations" may still be the gem here. Which leads to "american idiot." Simple? Yes. Track 2 "jesus of suburbia" is broken down into 5 parts (track 12 "homecoming" also does this) and rocks out on each stage. Here lyrics are juvenile and banal, but they work as Green day has always recognized this. Not punk. 4/4, rock n' ef'n roll w/ acoustic parts. Reminds me of "les miserables?" Would be fun to see live. Needs second listen...
