Postseason Roster

Enough speculating one man at a time, here's my roster, go to town: Outfield: Manny, Johnny, Trot, Kapler, Roberts Infield: Mueller, Cabrera, Bellhorn, Mientkiewicz, Millar, Reese, Youk DH: Shizzle my Nizzle (pretend he plays first for the WS) Catchers: Varitek, Mirabelli Starting Pitchers: Schilling, Little Petey, Bronson, WakeDawg (don't start with me) Bullpen: Timlin, Embree, Foulke, Leskanic, Myers, Mendoza Alternate idea: Have Wakefield start every game, and pull him after 9 batters. Alternate idea: (more genuine) Have a three man starting rotation (Schilling, Pedro, Bronson) and only allow them to pitch for 5 innings (so they'll all be OK on 3 days rest) then have Wakefield pitch 6-7 in every game. OK, forget those alternates, you have my roster. -=>JB the BCBJRJJ

I don't loike Myers, just a gut reaction after the grand slam he gave up. I'd like to see Mendoza in there as well, he's a good pitcher. When was the last time Lowe had two solid, consectutive, innings? Maybe I take Mendoza over Lowe.

I could go with Williamson instead of Mendoza, I'm on the fence about him anyway... problem with Williamson is that he seems likely to get hurt, and then you can't swap guys until the next series, is that right? I can't budge on Myers, though... one lefty? I was tempted to put Lenny Dinardo on since we have such a shortage of lefties... especially since this year Embree hasn't been so hot.

Ned Greene thinks having the lefty is important too, and goes with Myers. O.D.N.G. even goes so far as picking McCarty, too.

I can't stop wanting McCarty, either... He's my next favorite player this year after Kapler... On a limited roster, it's hard to argue with the guy that can play infield, outfield, and pitch... But, if you have to limit yourself to 10 pitchers, I wouldn't put McCarty in that bucket, so I would have to have him as one of my outfield or infield, and I can't sacrifice any of that 15.

I like Williamson over Myers. The man was thrust into the role of being the REd Sox closer last year and handled himself so well in th playoffs. McCarty is rad, but his pitching is nothing more than a novelty.

There's an argument to be made for situational pitching in the playoffs and one lefty, Embree, doesn't help. Myers is great against lefties. Yes, he's suspect, but Embree can also be spotty. The idea of leaving Lowe off the team is very odd. Even if he doesn't start, he does step it up in the playoffs (Saved the ALDS last year against the A's). Dirtdogs even want him to start game 3. Mendoza over Lowe? Please... McCarthy is not as good a batter as Youk (both righties), but only a couple points lower in the averages. Four 1st basemen? Yes, stupid, but McCarthy's a decent 6th outfielder, better than Millar. (I think we all have the same 5 OFs here) and I would rather see Wakefeld pitch if we are getting blown out by 8 runs. So Meuller gets hurt: Belhorn to third and Pokey to second?... Can Belhorn play outfield? Just thinking out loud.

Straight off of boston.com: Lowe's last three starts: 8 1/3 IP, 21 H, 15 ER, 6 BB, 5 K, 16.20 ERA

Myers: I can't budge on the lefty... he's the second best we got and we need more than one. Williamson: Love him. More likely to get hurt than Pokey. Out of practice... still considering him McCarty: Love him. Not taking him over Youk as the 7th infielder. Lowe: Let's not allow recency to dictate how we feel about him. He pitched like shit at the beginning of the year, too... in fact, he's got maybe 5 good starts this year. (number out of my ass) More importantly, yes, he did step up and save our ass last year. Yes, he can step up and be a better starter for this year's playoffs. He let's his emotions dictate how he pitches, which is why he can step up when it's time. However, he's also a _huge_ baby, and if we make him a reliever, he's going to suck, just because of his attitude. Plus, he knows he's the last on our list of resigns from this years graduating class... I have trouble relying on him. Mendoza: I dunno. So here's where I sit for pitchers: Start: Schilling, Pedro, Arroyo, Wakefield Setup: Timlin, Embree Close: Foulke Lefty Specialist: Myers Greasy Motherfucker: Leskanic That's 9... I think they're all critical So the tenth spot should be Williamson, Mendoza, Lowe or...?

Lowe in the post season (career): W1-L4 ERA:3.59 Games:13 starts:3 saves:1 IP:42.2 Hits:36 runs:23 earned:17 HR:3 HBP:3 BB:18 SO:27 Not bad...

Jesus, let's talk about Pedro and the giant pile of shit in his bed. Hopefully the playoff will be against one of the Cali teams, if for no other reason than the fact that it's warmer out there.

...and Embree looked like my pubic hair trimmings. What the hell was that 84 mph fastball? To a Lefty? Oh please, Mr. Myers, Please!

Posted by tgl on 2004-09-30 15:36:45 +0000
I'm convinced of the need for a "situational" lefty. Let it be Myers. Pedro wasn't necessarily stinking it up yesterday, although that first pitch triple has got to hurt... Whatever happened to B. Kim? Do you think we could get his head straightened out in the next 7 days? Leskanic: Greasy? Yes. Mofo? Yes. Isn't that what we need? I think he's got the best mullet on the team. Its gotta be Schilling, Petey, Beer Canyon, Wake, Lowe, Timlin, Embree, Foulke. Then the other two: Myers for sure, Williamson or Mendoza? Williamson.

Posted by tendiamonds on 2004-09-30 16:06:57 +0000
I don't think you should leave off Leskanic. I think Myers is key, so if you want Williamson (or Mendoza) you do it by scratching Lowe. Kim would be useful as a scapegoat if we don't win the WS.

If Timlin and Embree can perform in the postseason this year like they did last year, then we'll never think about Williamson or Mendoza.

Posted by frame609 on 2004-09-30 16:26:43 +0000
Foulke's been doing okay, be we all know he's a little spotty. Williamson.

Posted by tgl on 2004-09-30 16:29:02 +0000
Mike F., you scratching Lowe? ...that doesn't sound right.

Posted by frame609 on 2004-09-30 16:35:09 +0000
It doesn't seem like a bad idea right now, but I do feel a little guilty about it. The two lefties thing has merit. Augh!

Posted by frame609 on 2004-10-07 16:46:49 +0000
Gotta admit it- Myers' inclusion looked real good last night.

Posted by tgl on 2004-10-07 17:03:23 +0000
Uh-huh. I think we all got the position players correct. What was the final pitching roster: Schilling, Petey, Beer Canyon, Wake Lowe, Timlin, Myers, Embree, ??, ?? Foulke
