Other Tuesday New Releases

Anyone have approx $85 to $90 USD they don't need? Terry as a budding Wayne Shorter enthusiast might enjoy this (even though his preference for Don Cherry over Miles is known) http://www.miles-davis.com/sevensteps/flat.html 7 Discs! the "My Funny Valentine" Concert in full without the whiny bitch Mort Fega announcer breaking up the music! 17 (!) year old drummer Tony Williams! Basically the lineup / evolution of what would became Miles's infancy in his 2nd famous quintent and first dabblings with electronics. Cool fuckin' Shit! Bob Blumenthal, the critic / grammy winning journalist / jazz aficionado (yup I spell checked it) who wrote all the notes to this set (as well as most of the other Colombia boxes) is a Harvard scholar whom I have seen around the Boston jazz scene for years: I sat next to him @ Ken Vandermark, saw him @ Masada, William Parker / Hamid Drake, as well as Peter Brotzmann etc @ all those Boston Creative Music Alliance shows held @ the ICA. I tried to set up an interview with him on PCP, but that sort of fell by the wayside.... Last I heard, Mr. Blumenthal is employed by Branford Marsalis's Cambridge offices / record label, which name eludes me.... If you need info for my paypal acct, lemme know :)

BTW: Blumenthal was The Globe's Jazz columnist up till a few years ago. I dont have much of an opinion on whoever their new guy is, but Blumenthal knows his shit. Most of those Rudy Van Gelder (RVG) reissues of classic Blue Note albums have updated essays penned by him. Terry: Check yr Speak No Evil Disc!
