Arlo and Janis

This is a particularly funny comic, however, this comment will disappear at midnight.

Nice.

Arlo and Janis is constantly the most depressing comic on the page- those two hate each other.

Posted by tendiamonds on 2005-03-02 19:23:39 +0000
I hope you're kidding... they demonstrate the most perfect love I have ever seen.

Posted by frame609 on 2005-03-02 19:32:37 +0000
The most perfect love I have ever seen is in full color.

Posted by tgl on 2005-03-02 19:58:39 +0000
But... Arlo isn't in today's strip. That's Janis and the cat, Ludwig. All love: http://www.arloandjanis.com/ Where I do research: http://gearbox.maem.umr.edu/tdavis/cats/cat_comics.html

Although the water balloon sequence wasn't that cool, I did go to the site to see what the story was, and it was kinda cool. He explains why Gene isn't really in the strip anymore, which I respect. I blew off a little time reading some other old strips and this one tickled me a bit.

Second jab I've seen at Davis in as many days. The first was this article that I found to be a nice read about software development.

Let me take this opportunity to find praise for the otherwise shitstorm that is the Sidekick section of the Globe: I don't mind reading the comics on rideside for fear of ruining my pleasure of going through a nice routine with the paperbound funnies. Oh, and sometimes the poker column is interesting.

Posted by tgl on 2005-08-08 15:01:35 +0000
Read that JoS article too. Notice how there isn't any mention of "best software idea" to begin the flowchart? Sort of like Paul Graham's thesis. Now that I'm a train commuter (not today, at least, damn that 12:10AM last train!), I've been picking up the Globe mid-week much more often. I usually wait to read comics at the end of the day, so, I get a little overlap. I'm wondering if I should add the other comics I like from the Globe here, or, get the paper daily.

Here! Here!

Posted by tendiamonds on 2005-08-08 15:04:56 +0000
Oh, and, can we start a company?

Posted by tendiamonds on 2005-08-08 15:05:36 +0000
I mean... uh... cuz you know we'll have the best people... right?

Posted by tgl on 2005-08-08 15:29:08 +0000
Add more? Get the paper?

Posted by tgl on 2005-08-08 15:29:38 +0000
Oh wait... here.

May I add another reason I hate the Sidekick section in the Glob? Arlo, for some unknown reason, has been delegated to a square 2x2 spot, which sucks every day, and ruins (however unfunny) strips like these. On a related Glob comix note: I was excited to see Opus gone from the first page of the Sunday. Only to discover two drawbacks to that discovery: (1) Opus hasn't been cancelled, it was just moved to another page; (b) Calvin and Hobbes reruns are on the main page. (and in the daily) I'm appalled. After two weeks of reading the Washington Post's commies, I'm wondering how bad the out of town edition of that paper is as my new news source.

Thank you for the Ladew-clan holiday card, but what would people if I regifted that, NP?

Posted by Null Protocol on 2005-12-23 12:35:03 +0000
eliciting my best Manuel from Barcelona: que? not sure I understand the question...

Posted by dawnbixtler on 2005-12-23 12:41:58 +0000
I was just thinking how awkward it would be to send someone somebody else's Xmas cards... I don't know why I think that's so funny, but I'm laughing thinking about it. Probably just me.

Ive had that "what if...." thought many a time. As Microsoft word gets more and more complex w/ mail merge and data integration fields, a dilligent form letter writer would have a decent stab at writing a form letter that "feels" personalized, but with more data options, the more opportunities for glorious mistakes. Most years I try to sign letters (with no interchangeable data fields) and make up for the impersonal justice of the tacky form letter with a personal note on a letter / card. Can I plead the 5th and use the trite "busy parent" excuse this year?

Posted by dawnbixtler on 2005-12-23 12:50:55 +0000
Please, NP, no excuses needed. My lazy ass wrote like two cards this year... And apologies about my grammar.

its just somethin I like to do...

On an IM this morning, a bud in NYC asked me: "How's it going Janis?" My response: "Arlo and Janis or Janis Joplin?" "What's the difference?" I ended the friendship then. Later, he clarified that he meant Joplin.

Posted by tendiamonds on 2006-03-16 17:25:04 +0000
Janis is named after Janis, so I'm on yer bud's side.

Posted by tendiamonds on 2006-03-16 17:25:20 +0000
We should all be so lucky.

Posted by Miriam on 2006-03-16 18:06:41 +0000
Nice. Does that mean he thinks I'm a little off-center, but an innovator...and kind of confrontational?

Posted by dawnbixtler on 2006-06-20 16:49:54 +0000
Ah, poetry. And my second favorite cat in the comic world.

Posted by buzzorhowl on 2006-06-21 01:06:32 +0000
After....?
