Anyone nervous?

What if Theo signs NOBODY? Free Agents All!

Varitek = 5 yrs. $50 mil. No trade clause? What the fuck? What happens if we sign no one?

Scott Boras = the devil. Seriously. I hope they can get it down to three years. Today Schilling endorsed Pavano, and Omar Visquel signed, thus making the pool of potential SS's one smaller.

Hear Hear, frame609, I've been sayin for a while that Boras is bad for baseball. He's great for his players, and I'm happy for the guys to make a lot of $$, but Boras's strategy, is if some team can afford a certain contract for a player, he should never accept less... Unfortunately, not all teams can afford contracts that the MFY can... so great players _have_ to go to the MFY. Fucking Beltran will, I'm pissed. I really like that guy.

What's the word on the SS prospect? Two to three years out?

Posted by frame609 on 2004-11-15 18:53:12 +0000
Hanley Ramirez (SS) and Kelly Shoppach (C) both have at least another year to go.

Mirabelli (C) to take over from Varitek (C) if 'Tek doesn't get signed? There's no comparison I guess, Doug did just have a career year, though.

As a Wakefield fan, I'm obliged to be a Mirabelli fan. And the boy is a piss-n-vinegar threat at the plate. Scale his numbers by plate appearances and he's outstanding. I never fully appreciated how good his glove was until I saw Tek desperatlely trying to loose a game by missing knucleballs that were strikes. Mirabelli is very, very good. Nevertheless, he doesn't have the gun to second, and he doesn't call a game very well, which may be Varitek's biggest strength. I sweated every time Mirabelli stayed in and had to call pitches other than knuckleballs.

Some salient points...

TGL, you're a fantastic person

Again, right on.

The rumblings re: catcher are like this- 'Belli platooning with some passable yet not-too-sterling other catcher, one, or the acquisition of Schneider from the Expos/Senators/Grays. Mr. Schneider is decent at the plate, cheap, and had a better throwin' runners out percentage than anyone this year.

Is Tek out? Does Boras hate baseball? Do I sound like GW talking about terrorists?

Posted by frame609 on 2004-11-15 20:22:13 +0000
Tek's not out yet, but no way he's getting signed for five years, ten million per, or any combo thereof.

Posted by tendiamonds on 2004-11-15 20:24:28 +0000
but isn't Boras just using those as threats to make sure he gets lots of $$... like OK, we'll drop the no trade, but you should increase the $$... OK, then we'll drop the fifth year but you should increase the $$... so JV ends up with 4 years, for $44mil with no no-trade?

V-tek may also be the best base runner compared to others with 4.9 speed. Great vision, smart, good slide, and the master of the delayed steal. He gets much deserved press about being a team leader and getting timely hits, but running is another reason I love this guy. How do we know Shoppach and Dominique aren't ready for the bigs? Coupled with Dougy M. I like it...

Pedro to MFY? Pedro & Posada, now there's a couple.

Do you think he'll still want to bean the Bambino? Maybe he'll be an insider, bean Olerud in the helmet on a pickoff attempt.
