It can't happen here.

From Reuters: "I would have shot the insurgent too. Two shots to the head," said Sergeant Nicholas Graham, 24, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. "You can't trust these people. He should not be investigated. He did nothing wrong." . . . A Marine can be heard saying on the pool footage provided to Reuters Television: "He's fucking faking he's dead."
I'm generally offended when the US military is compared to the Third Reich. While I can see parallels between the erosions of civil liberties and the Germany of the early '30s, I'm one of those Americans that tend to see the military personnel as generally good people engaged in a repugnant activity. Military personnel genuinely believe they are protecting the country, doing their duty, and so forth. It's not their decision that the duty called for is in Iraq. I'd like to think the conduct of the US military does not resemble that of Kristelnacht. The more I see of warfare in Iraq, the harder it is to combat those comparisons. Is it just the case of another bad apple? It's ugly on both sides, that's for sure. I thought that a complete withdrawal from Iraq means certain chaos and an impalatable regime coming to power. How is that different from the conditions now? War is hell, and none of these activities should come as a shock. Other than humanitarian reasons, there are tactical & military reasons for not killing wounded and helpless adversaries. Discouraged & sickened, that's all I'm trying to say.
