Wither the middle class?

After my third glass of wine, I was positive that the median income in the Boston area was $32K. Ooops. 2002 median household income: Somerville: $46.3K Cambridge: $47.9K Boston: $39.6K 2002 per capita income: Middlesex County: $46.5K Suffolk County: $41.2K (compare to $30.9K nationally). Here's the 2000 Census income information. So, what's my point? I don't know...
