Public Enemy

Nice article featuring Chuck D's reflections on the importance of (and continuing influence of) It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back...

I remember Randy (when he was living with us) used to watch this Public Enemy concert tape all the time. It was more than a little, well, fey looking. What a difference a few years makes, huh? I remember being scared shitless with the first Wu-Tang joint.

Liar! Nothing scares BQ. Besides, you're the man who introduced Wu-Tang to "the gang" as far as I remember...

Yeah... but that was like in 97 or something. When I first heard it in 95, I was a wee bit perturbed.

I've been listening to Straight Outta Compton nonstop for three days... so awesome. Someone came into my office and thought it was PE and then did the House of Pain dance. I put my foot in his ass. On an unrelated note about people at my work, I explained "drop a fagan" to Tommy Walsh yesterday, and he's taken to it nicely. As long as I'm talking about Tommy Walsh, he just referred to his car as "The Shizzatalite" and we all know it's faster than the speed of light.

what about Ladewtang? I was trying to get F Tang to listen to ODB's "Return Of The 36 Chambers" back in like 96/97. I remember we went to a standup comedy gig and went recordshopping. I was trying to peel him away from Slint's 'Spiderland' with not a whole lot of success... _______________________________

Sorry, Ladew-Tang! I guess by saying that BQ "introduced Wu-Tang to 'the gang,'" I meant "got people drunk to the point of incapacitation and forced them to listen to Wu-Tang." Speaking of which, I will forever remember your and BQ's respective Classic Party Moments: Ladew: taping a poster of Al Green (sensuously unbuttoning his jeans and leering at the camera) above your toilet to make your male guests' party experience complete. BQ: drinking beer out of the coffeepot because all the other containers at Wadsworth had already been used. Yeah, I know. I'm demented and sad. But social!

I remember that comedy gig- we drove around lost for a long time before we got to where we needed to be. Awesome. You were totally trying to get me into ODB for a while. I was young and foolish (but social.)

Hey... drinking beer out of the coffee pot is a tradition I've tried to uphold at most parties!

That makes me miss you even more, BQ. x

I remember finding my first cassette of Straight outta Compton in the hallway (math wing, K-M locker area) on like the third of fourth week of ABRHS in '88. Brought it home, listened to it like ten times in a row, each time scarier than the first. I believe it's the only album I didn't let my mom hear.
