I'm going into work at like four, and finishing up circa: ten-thirty. I could meet everyone after the show, if you're down.

Gadi Reinhorn stand-up might be on my entertainment bill on Sunday.

I plan on being cripplingly hung over after a Saturday night at Foxwoods w/ 5 of my hardest drinking college bud's. Gaddi's improv starts at 7:30 I think, which is when the doors open for Slint at the Roxy...

Ok here's the poop: Slint performed all of 'Spiderland' (not in order of the album BTW), interspersed with nuggets from 'Tweez' and the other EP the released on T&G. No new tunes... hopefully the band will be encouraged to add some new output to the world of indie rock.... The band was scaringly proficient, tight, deliberate, precise, spot on, etc... Great sound especially w/ the drums: Crisp snares and cymbals, boomin bass drum thuds. All the little guitar feedback and techniques so well loved on the recorded Spiderland were very audible as well. One who hadn't heard the album might also be able (at certain points in the gig) to discern the words being said in the spoken word / talkover passages of the music. ("Don stepped outside, It was good to be alone.....") Setup / breakdown times in between songs were long, but the band made each tune worth the wait. The band was very static and clinical, not a lot of motion up on the stage, but still, there was the feeling that all of the band members were intensely into what they were doing and were all wired together... Crowd was oddly quiet, patient, and well behaved... (very occasional heckling i.e. "Show us yr Slint", "Shut The Fuck Up", and maybe one or two inevitable "play 'Good Morning Captain'!!!!") to the point that you could here bartenders clinking bottles, a phenomenon I'm only used to when I go to see Jazz Shows... I Saw Guy D. and the original bassist of Garrison on the way in... nice to see some familiar faces! Seeing a show @ the Roxy does mean HIGH prices, $7(!) beer (I ordered a Sam without checking the price first....), and the use of a stage that has recently had the chippendales there, but it also means: -excellent sound -breathable air -space -many different angles to see the band from -weird and crazy lights (if yr into that sort of thing) Opening act 'PG6' was very intoverted moperock (the bad kind, as opposed to Slint, which is the good kind of introverted mope rock): A guy with a guitar / wood flute and banjo (not all at the same time) looking down and hunched over for the whole 35 min or so of his set. Stringy black bangs occluded the audience's ability to see who this dude was. His music was competent, but to me had no point of involvement for me. It was just there, like wallpaper, or flourescent tracklighting or something... Somebody there might've liked him, but most of the comments I overheard (some from people going to all the Slint gigs) where to the extent of 'I wish it would be closer to PG 13', or 'lets hope someone else is opening tommorow' All in all avery worthwhile event! _______________________________
