Just curious... (re: media bias)
... does CNN show a left or right or totally unbiased approach after the X over Cheney's face debacle?

Talk about conspiracy theories... I'm not clear on all the details, but are you claiming that the X on Cheney was an editorial decision made by CNN management?
Apology made.

according to Drudge, heads are still rolling for that. (albeit low on the totem pole switchboard operators with 'tudes, but still...)
so the NYT and others can lend legitimacy to a bulge in Bush's jacket being an election conspiracy, but just as (if not more) visible CNN tomfoolery shouldn't make people skeptical? Unbelievable.

Not so much conspiracy theories... but when you have somebody saying that putting an X over Cheney's face is protected under "free speech" when an act like that is clearly editorializing makes ya wonder for a second or two. Where's Dawn? He usually has a couple things to say about this sort of thing.

Please, the "X" over Cheney was an admitted mistake. Bush's wire was not.

Maybe Bush had just seen "Roxanne" and thought it was a good idea to get his ideas from someone else.
Posted by dawnbixtler on 2005-11-28 18:03:51 +0000
Honestly, I don't think it was Bush's idea.
Posted by tgl on 2005-11-28 18:51:20 +0000
Who is the "somebody" claiming the X is "free speech"? No one at CNN has.

Maybe the link above was broken. from Drudge:
[Laurie Goldberg, Senior Vice President for Public Relations with CNN, said in a release:
"A Turner switchboard operator was fired today after we were alerted to a conversation the operator had with a caller in which the operator lost his temper and expressed his personal views -- behavior that was totally inappropriate. His comments did not reflect the views of CNN. We are reaching out to the caller and expressing our deep regret to her and apologizing that she did not get the courtesy entitled to her. " ]

Well, Drudge is claiming (rladew's link above) a switchboard operator said, ""Was it not freedom of speech? Yes or No?"
And then "If you don't like it, don't watch."
The operator was imediately fired. Do you think it was Drudge who called CNN? Man, I love that guy...

If a national news network did the same to Hillary or Joe Biden or Barrack Obama etc. etc. Would you then too be willing to concede it was just a mistake? If so, then my apologies...

For the record (not having seen this), I absolutely would not be very willing to accept an "oops" response. I'd be pissed. I'm thinking specifically of what my feeling would be if Fox pulled some crap like this on a liberal figure.
Just sayin'.
And I reckon you're right to question the response.
Even though seeing a big X on his face made me giggle. (sorry)
Posted by tgl on 2005-11-28 19:13:21 +0000
Right, got it. CNN has been pursuing a relentless liberal-biased news slant as evidenced by the fact that a Turner switchboard operator made claims that a technical glitch was free speech. Clear as a bell.

Awesome.

RE: A pox on Clinton, Biden or Obama.
Clearly, it's a mistake. I have higher expectations of Ted Turner's ability to subvert media to his political wills; he did colorize "Gone With The Wind", didn't he?
Posted by pamsterdam on 2005-11-28 19:18:04 +0000
Not a top-down decision, clearly - but I could imagine one idiot (or two) pulling a stunt like this for a giggle.
P.S. It wasn't me.

now colorized with a happier ending! (TM)
