21st Century Schizoid Abe apreesh
Just finished reading "Lincoln's Melancholy" over Thanksgiving. It's a great, intriguing read. Thorough and thoughtful analysis (sort of a psychobiography) of Abe Lincoln's writings, speeches, and other peoples' recollections of him. He was a fascinating, troubled fellow. It's also sort of a cultural history of nineteenth century depression. The epilogue is an interesting history of the Lincoln Biography, and how it has morphed over the years since his death, now approaching the general acceptance (among historians) that if he were alive today he'd probably be on Zoloft.
