Lets hear it!
Maddie and I sang songs and ate cookies last night.
She hasn't been exposed to grime or Jandek yet. alas...

Middle East never sounded better. I mean, in all the shows I've been to Upstairs, it's pathetic to have to say that it took somebody this long to make it finally sound good. Though, I'll go out on a limb and assume it went back to sounding like shit last night. Sov musta spent all that advance money on killer sound equipment. Listen to me, this is coming from the guy who is not the gear-head.
As for the show itself: Louise is adorable in that cute, younger, tomboy-ish sister kind of way. Her charisma is engaging. But, like I've said before with my complaints of the other grime folks: she's got, so far, like 2-3 decent songs, at best. And she didn't play one of those songs! Tons of awkward nothing happening between songs, etc. She did however hang out in the bar/outside the club for the whole night, which I think is pretty amazing. No rock star bullshit. Really down to Earth for a 19 year old multi-millionaire. Stef I think shared a smoke with her.

I loved it. BQ's right, she does remind one of a 16 year old folk singer that doesn't know talking for 5 minutes in between songs is "bad form".
The sound was incredible. I have never had the hair on my arms stand up like that with bass notes, yet at the same time NOT hurt my chest with too much volume on the kick drum. Stunning.
I don't have any of her music, but I'd heard '9 to 5' and 'Cha-ching'. She has flow, and great sped up tempo stuff. Seems her audience call and response song 'Orange' (as she explained, it's about her friend who uses spray on tanning) was the highlight. She didn't sing 'Hoodie' did she?
She still reminds me of Sporty Spice. Now, Mel C was my favorite Spice Girl, but something is off here. Honar's friend, Amanda, caught the T-shirt thrown into the audience (most awkward moment of the night? But hey free T-shirt. Good crowd helped too. (B)

Ditto. Great crowd, fantastic sound, and spectacular show.
.
My $.02--
.
There was something kind of icky or strange about watching her show, no matter how much I liked her music. I really liked that the songs feature her friend's spray on tan and J-Lo's butt. But, like BQ and Ned, I didn't like the banter. What she talked about wasn't funny or interesting, reminding me every time that she was 19.
.
She has made a virtual photocopy of early Beasties and NWA, "back in the day." If I were 31, listening to their (B & NWA's) musicthen, I probably would have felt icky about their stage banter, even if I loved their music.
.
Has anyone else watched the DVD yet? It's kind of a "Truth or Dare"-esque thing, mixing videos of her with interviews... Maybe a good thing for all y'all to watch when making Mondays Tuesday?
A good clip:
Q. "Where do you get your inspiration for your songs?"
A: "From my head. I always am thinking about things to sing about"
(no irony)

Watched the DVD last night. Insufferable. I know that's the vogue thing now to add a DVD to get you to buy the record instead of downloading the stuff, but seriously, can somebody do a watchable DVD for once?
Videos were nothing special. Although watching them, I realize that she's not so much a female Eminem, but rather a white Missy Elliott.

I agree, wholeheartedly, BQ. The video is as cringe-worthy as "The Office" or "This is Spinal Tap." I had to cover my eyes in spots.
My point was that the "underlying meaning" would probably come through after sitting on the H3W back porch for a while.
This would be an event where _I_ might even "parake of the local customs," if you get my drift.

One of the measures of productivity at the un-named corporation I work for is something called "Incoming call percentage"*, or the amount of time you are signed on yr phone and ready to take calls.
Us (un?)hip kids @ work have called it the insane clown posse for quite some time...
* In the 'who gives a shit' dept, Mine is about 82% *

"partake of the local customs"
That's diving headfirst down the back stairs, right?
Or climbing up the outside of the house to reach the porch?
