bump.

I've made other plans. I daresay my dinner guests will appreciate my trying to channel the gig via my recordings of Dalek and ISIS. Oh well. On a related note: emerlad necklace or first post at Suffolk Downs?

09/29/06 Friday Tool / Isis [Mansfield MA] any takers? c'mon... the last Great Woods show I saw was David Bowie / Moby (Area 2 I think it was called?) before that, it was 199(7?) Wu-Tang / Rage Against the Machine with Quigley(s) Brendan and Morgan. Best part of that night was Mrs. Quigley teaching me Wu aliases that I didn't know in Norwood before the show ;)

It was a bit wierd hearing Susan rattle them all off.

Posted by buzzorhowl on 2006-07-28 03:01:40 +0000
That's a tempting show.

I saw that Moby/Bowie show. Moby ran around the stage to techno. Alright. Bowie - a consummate professional and still working it.

Posted by MF DU on 2006-07-28 12:27:07 +0000
lets do it! - the people watching alone will be aggravating and exhilirating all at once - although I know you just saw NIN / Bahaus (sp?) which must've also been excellent people watching...

Shit! also sold out gen pub tix went on sale last week not this Friday as I thought. I did get Radiohead tix, so the Peeping Tom / Gnarls and this one must be karma... oh well.

October 31 2006: New song from the album In the Absence Of Truth for free: Dulcinea. Can't Wait!

Can I coin a new term? Ultralorbering ! even though I am probably only posting to myself, I also read an article with ISIS's lead vox/guitarist Aaron Turner this past weekend. Usually articles where musicians explain what their current influences are do so in terms of sounds, textures, genres - something to get you imagining what yr ears will hear. Mr. turner only divulges what he has currently read and that he is trying to translate his feelings of this book into sound: Bizquig turned me onto this book in 2001. All I can say is that it is a doozy, and a SCARY one at that.

Fantastic book.

Been playing 'Dulcinea' on the proprietary eponym like its my freekin job. Awesome tune.

a taste of the recently released ISIS DVD on IPECAC. Very excited for the impending In The Absence Of Truth...

Middle East Saturday March 17th 2007. Tix went on sale yesterday - don't snooze - they will sell out. (Hopefully) see some of you there.

Posted by MF DU on 2006-12-16 00:54:32 +0000
also - not on the bill for the March 17th show, but in related Ipecac news, Dalek's 3rd ipecac full length drops in Feb:

They did sell out, but I snagged one for the Friday show. I've never heard 'em, but I liked the piece on them in the Dig. If it's anything like Altar, I'm thinking I'll love it.

Posted by tgl on 2007-03-15 20:17:13 +0000
Damn. Damn. Damn.

Posted by Riotous Nutjob on 2007-03-15 20:20:48 +0000
Can't make it?

Posted by tgl on 2007-03-15 20:21:48 +0000
OK, I got a ticket for Friday.

Posted by Riotous Nutjob on 2007-03-15 20:23:49 +0000
Hey, awesome! I'll see you there.

Posted by Riotous Nutjob on 2007-03-15 20:25:49 +0000
Incidentally, I'll be at the Middle East downstairs tonight, too, for Caspian and Appleseed Cast and some other band. If anyone's looking for music, drinks, and company.

Posted by tgl on 2007-03-15 20:33:18 +0000
I guess I'll be upstairs, then. Incidentally, my favorite thing about the Middle East is hanging out at the "upstairs" bar/restaurant, talking trash about the band currently playing. It's best when you have tickets for the show. OK, unless Oxes or Battles are playing inside and we're making fools of ourselves.

Dude, The Life And Times -- ex-Shiner.

Posted by Riotous Nutjob on 2007-03-16 04:48:06 +0000
Audience Guy: "SHINER!!!" Lead Singer Guy: "Yeah, fuckin' AWESOME band, man!" Super show! All bands were rocking heavily. The lead singer of Appleseed Cast looks like what I imagine Johnny Appleseed looked like. The Life and Times were a sonic shitstorm, in a good sense. Harris had moments of brilliance. Caspian was thunderously good. Would have liked to hear more of A. Cast, but the T called. What I heard from them was terrific, though.

Posted by Epoisses on 2007-03-16 05:09:38 +0000
How'd you decide to go see the show?

Posted by MF DU on 2007-03-16 12:45:32 +0000
D'oh - I'm going to the Sat show :( You guys should enjoy, though. I dont think anybody out there right now is doing stuff like Isis. Jesu (Justin K Broadrick from Godflesh / founding member of the late 80's lineup of Napalm Death) is opening... If any of you are there on Sat - I will be easy to find (That's all I can see without spoiling the surprise)

A few weeks ago I saw an Appleseed Cast album at Newbury Comics, and thought, "Wow, what a pretentious name...maybe they're decent?" I read reviews calling them "America's answer to Radiohead" and "Emo for people who don't like emo," and thought I'd look into them more. Finally got around to listening to a few snippets of them on myspace and dug it some. Also listened to a little Caspian. Both bands seemed like they'd have a great live sound and earlier this week I was itching to get out and go to a show. Isis? Or Appleseed Cast? I had to go for both.

Posted by Riotous Nutjob on 2007-03-16 12:58:37 +0000
Yeah, it's too bad I didn't think of going sooner.

Posted by tgl on 2007-03-16 13:44:17 +0000
Saturday would have worked better for me, considering, but I was too late to get a ticket. Nor'easter might stop me though, still, what a tale: Remember the time we saw ISIS during the Nor'easter?

Posted by Riotous Nutjob on 2007-03-16 14:13:43 +0000
Upstairs on the downstairs side, you mean? What time you thinking?

Posted by tgl on 2007-03-16 15:05:12 +0000
Upstairs on the Upstairs side. If I go, it'll be later. 10pm?

Posted by Riotous Nutjob on 2007-03-16 15:23:42 +0000
Sure, I'll swing by about that time. Text or call if you don't think you'll be there.

Last time I saw Helmet was on the Betty tour in 1994 at the Fitchburg MA hockey arena with Rollins Band (apologies to G lib) and Les Claypool's Sausage. Helmet had the middle slot before Rollins. As much as I like the Hank - Page Hamilton and co. anhiliated so severely in their set that everything following them was completely rendered trivial. Also - I saw the only existing tour shirt from the 1988-1989 version of Naked City on a kid. I was jealous.

Posted by MF DU on 2007-03-19 02:44:33 +0000
What a show. Jesu's snail-core thouroughly impressed and ISIS made a hot and sweaty full up sausage fest Middle East the only place I'd want to be during their 90 minute show. My metal bud Aaron from WUNH was there snapping shots - I'll try and get some links up soon.

For the record, picket fence tattoos are way cooler than barbed wire.

Posted by Epoisses on 2007-03-19 16:19:40 +0000
Looks like the show was BRUTAL.

Posted by Riotous Nutjob on 2007-03-19 16:26:30 +0000
Lead Singer Guy: "We'll play what we fucking want to and you WILL like it!" Guy Next To Me: "What'd he say?" Me: [repeats it] GNTM: "Uh, I guess so..." Who was this guy, and what was he doing at an ISIS show? He clearly could not take the sheer brutality!
