Ad Jingles

What makes a good ad jingle? I think it needs to be musically catchy yet not annoying. The lyrics should be clear and memorable, possibly funny. If you are going to spoof a pop song, you should probably use a very popular one, that everyone is familiar with, so the reference is not lost on anyone. This weekend I was listening to my current favorite classic rock station, 96.5 The Mill WMLL of Manchester, NH, and forgot to change stations when commercials came on (usually to 100.1 The Pike WWFX of Worcester) and heard the best ad jingle I've heard in a long time. Casey's Barbecue (I think) had an ad that was a spoof of "Alcohol" by Gang Green. Wow. The changed all the lines about alcohol to be about barbecue, changed the line about coke ("You've got the coke, give me a line") to something about swine, and changed "I'd rather drink than fuck" to "I'd rather eat than fuck" and beeped it out. So awesome. Now I'm going to listen to ads so I can hear it again. Roadtrip for barbecue anyone?

I bought a bunch of gang Green tapes in high school (older Budweiser was one I remember off the top of my rusty head)... good stuff, good times. mmmm BBQ! Its been so long since Ive had decent pulled pork... Haven't listened to terrestrial radio outside of college in such a long time, I didnt even know of a Manch Vegas rock station @ 96.5. It was always WGIR 101 back in the day - one of the program directors, Francis, of WUNH, went on to be a dj there for a stretch.
