Norah Jones the Potty Mouth
Apparently collaborating with Mike Patton does something to you.
Bebel Gilberto, Kid Koala, Dale Crover, and Kool Keith as well.
somebody better call an ambulance...

Not a huge Norah Jones fan. A tad too breathy for me.
That said, this quote from Patton is promising: "But yeah, you won’t recognize Norah. She’s cussing her ass off. It’s insane. She’s like a cruel vamp, and it’s super sexy, hot and, yeah, cruel".
Note "Peeping Tom" also has DJ Dick and Dan the Automator. With Kid Koala and Kool Keith? Too many cooks can spoil the dish.

agreed. "Somebody call an ambulance" isnt always a compliment.
I will check it out for sure, but who knows what it will be like...

Mar. 14, 2006 It is truly hard to beleive it is almost here!!!!
PEEPING TOM
The notorious project that Mike Patton has been working on for over 6 years! The mysterious leaked demos! Which label will it be on? Who are the guests? What will it sound like? Is Mike singing? Where did the Warriors season go wrong? Will they tour?
A lot of these questions will be answered soon!!!!!!
IPECAC RECORDINGS is proud to announce that PEEPING TOM "self titled" full length debut release will be unveiled on May 30th!
Mike Patton will be joined by an impressive lineup of guests. Here is what you get for your hard earned cash:
1) Five Seconds (featuring Odd Nosdam)
2) Mojo (featuring Rahzel and Dan the Automator)
3) Don't Even Trip (featuring Amon Tobin)
4) Getaway (featuring Kool Keith)
5) Your Neighborhood Spaceman (featuring Jel and Odd Nosdam)
6) Kill The DJ (featuring Massive Attack)
7) Caipirinha (featuring Bebel Gilberto)
8) Celebrity Death Match (featuring Kid Koala)
9) How U Feelin? (featuring Doseone)
10) Sucker (featuring Norah Jones)
11) We're Not Alone (featuring Dub Trio)
Does this record really exist?

Streeted yesterday.
Buyer beware:
The packaging, while cool, is a bitch to open without ripping the "peeping eye" insert to shreds:
The outside CD case jacket is a door with a keyhole. There is a 5" square insert of heavy cardstock glossy material with a nude woman insert. The other section is a "wrapped" digipack. There is a brown cardboard hinged eye that covers the plastic tray of the cd itself.
Packaging like this is a mixed blessing to me - I appreciate the time and efforts that go into making somethig without the traditional artwork ready to go so you can slap a upc over it and move units like crazy, but I try to keep the packaging as intact and neat as possible and a box like this ripped on me as I was ever so gently trying to open it.
As far as the content: The first single 'Mojo' is all I've heard - no cd listening access on current vacation.
The Peeping Tom performance from last week's Conan is hopefully captured on DVR.

Thanks for the warning about the packaging, MF. It sits atop my desk still in shrink wrap, and I will be carefull.

Just heard it all for the first time -
I would say that this recording contains some of the more 'easy to listen to' Patton work of the past 5-6 years.
I love heavy vocal tic'ed avant metal as much as the next guy, but after 4+ Fantomas records, 2 Tomahawks, various improvs on Tzadik, Painkiller guest spots, Bjork guest spots etc... I was psyched to hear this 'Peeping Tom' stuff.
The bossa nova stylings, the beats, the plethora of recorded voices is all a hell of a lot of fun.
The Norah Jones track 'Sucker' is an early fave...
I cant seem to get the You Tube Javascript to execute on my mom's computer, but if you go around to MySpace or YouTube - it seems many people have already posted last week's 'Peeping Tom' Conan O Brien performance of 'Mojo'

After opening the album, I have to say that it is my favorite CD packaging ever. Great pop-up-book style pull tab. Reminds me of good vinyl album art.
Listening to it now.

Fancy CD packaging sucks. I toss the packaging to all my CDs, so when they have fancy shit, I have to feel bad about it. Actually, I put them all in a bin in storage, but still... no, wait, I don't remember the last time I bought a non-children's CD.

Packaging is the only way to get people to buy CDs. You may think it sucks, but the market is dying.

No, I hate lunchables, as the packaging is intended to be thrown away.

A gimmick here, a gimmick there.

I agree lunchables are a gimmick.

'Don't Even Trip' is great.
Is 'Kill the DJ' my favorite or least favorite? The over synthed Massive Attack with Patton singing, "Blame Me!" like a harder version of Portisehead's classic 'Nobody Loves Me.' But the rapping... listened to it 3 times and it annoys me a little. Still fun stuff.

Who's that in the middle? Kid Rock?
Posted by pamsterdam on 2006-06-02 04:13:31 +0000
Jack White. *shudder*
But Kid Rock wouldn't look out of place there, either...
...which naturally leads us to...
Bobcat Goldthwait.

I store the packaging from the eponymously named Lunchables in a special place. If in the future if I ever need to review the contents of the Lunchable or admire the artwork of the packaging, I can retrieve it.

Jack White? Wow.
Posted by dawnbixtler on 2006-06-02 16:14:32 +0000
Really enjoying the Raconteurs, White's new project.
A tad mellow, hey Jack's always needed a bassist, and a better drummer.
