I had asked Mr. 'Dek and / or his Corwood representative about the possibility of a subscription service, so new releases would be mailed as they become available:
"Although We Agreed Once To Do This, We Realize We Don't Have the accounting System to Accomodate Advance Payments.
New Releases are recorded on www.forcedexposure.com. They distribute our releases
0783 is $12. You have a $4 credit with us. We expect another release March-April."
Analysis of Khartoum Variations so far:
more isolated / compressed than Khartoum. Jandek doesn't sound as wounded on this disc's version of 'I Shot Myself'
bottom line: FUCK BONO!
The live sound is so much different than the "Man in a closet" of Kharthoum... swirling guitars and a coherent bass /drum bottom end!.. Dare I say the atonal blues has met up with a surging psychedelia?
Best Title on Newcastle: 'Mangled and Dead'

Remember when Kim Gordon wasn't a MILF and Thurston Moore looked like a young Jandek? Yeah, me neither, but you can get photographic evidence that such a time existed in the liner notes of this here record. Originally released in 1982 on Glen Branca's label, this is Sonic Youth's real first album, self-titled and recorded in all its low-fi glory at Radio City Music Hall. The band was less than a year old at this point - in fact, this is the only recording with original drummer Rich Edison, who also contributes extensive liner notes here, along with SY scholar and Massachusetts wildman Byron Coley. Plenty here for old heads and newcomers alike: classic tracks like "Burning Spear(1)" and "She Is Not Alone(2)" are finally remastered to listenable sound quality, while the second platter unveils a cache of previously unreleased live tracks and the early studio track "Where the Red Fern Grows(3)." Deluxe gatefold cover with rare pictures and flyers, released on the band's own Goofin' label.
