Panel Discussion with Red Sox Player(s)

For Employee Appreciation week we get to ask a yet to be named player or players questions. If anyone can come up with a good question let me know and I will try to ask it. Obviously this would be easier if I knew who the player was going to be but... These are the questions I have come up with so far: "Do you guys want to make mondays tuesdays in Allston?" "How much did they pay you to be here?" "Who would you like to see traded to Boston as a Pitcher?"

Invite 'em to the Wadsies.

Dont get me wrong: I love the Sox and it sounds like a great employee reward as opposed to a polo shirt or a free lunch or something, but I often wonder @ most corporations I've worked at , instead of spending _________ on holiday parties, events, snacks , etc etc.. why not divvy up the extra scratch and direct deposit into each employee's bank acct?

seriously, give me that money so I can afford to buy a Trot Nixon shirt. I guess the Panel discussion is going to be conducted with moderaters who will ask the players edited (probably by public relations) questions. I might stand up and scream something like "yankees suck" or something. We have a lot of Yankees fans on my floor. In terms of giving back to the employees in the form of cash they do give a crazy after tax $30,000 won through lottery bonus to two employees a year for referring an employee. So MFDU if you know anyone looking for a job at a bank, shorty swing my way.

Do they have to love communicable diseases?

Disease Prone would be a plus. They are always on the lookout for the flesh eating plague.

"why not divvy up the extra scratch and direct deposit into each employee's bank acct?" Because that defeats the purpose of such functions.

It's actually much cheaper to throw a crappy pizza party every 2 months or so than give everyone a _meaningful_ raise. As pension plans, full boat health care, etc. get dumped, I don't expect to see large jumps in salaries. Supposedly, the company should pay me more in leiu of not maintaining a pension plan so that I will be able to fund my own retirement. We've only seen corporate profits increased and risk passed onto employees, not increases in employees base pay. What's that old yarn about how local, state and federal business taxes are merely passed onto the customer via increased prices? The same has got to be true for reductions in employee benefits (whether health care or karaoke parties), the corporation always comes out ahead. That being said, employee morale is crucial. These group events do have a place, and are a relatively cheap means of fostering a team environment. I ran across a quote somewhere (forget where at the moment, must be becuase I'm in... ROMANIA) that said to the effect that a business should strive for employee satisfaction over all other objectives. All other objectives (customer satisfaction, profits, etc.) are driven and dependent on employee satisfaction. If the corporation isn't willing to spring for cost of living increases every year, than the least they can do is bring in Manny Delcarmen for a Q&A session.

I was standing across the street from Mathworks this afternoon. The deli there, the name of which eludes me, has no AC.

The sign on the inside of our GM's door reads: "The customer's experience should never surpass the employees." I think it's a recently recognized basis for good business, unless of course, you're a one person company... I should probably start a 401K eh?

Delimax. Very good Italian sub: prosciutto, basil, fresh mozzarella and balsamic on homemade bread. Surprisingly good pizza. Plus, Alder's daycare is in the building behind it.

I do enjoy the fact that I am not wearing a tie today and that maybe I'll get some italian ice later this week. However, there are people that work in the company that make 30 times as much as I do. DO they perform the same amount of work that 30 clones of myself could do. No. So I think that the salary pay scale is disproportionately skewed and breeds sloth and entitlement issues across the board. It's really sick and twisted but hey I have to pay my bills.

Gabe Kapler and Doug Mirabelli were the two players who came to answer questions today. They were pretty funny. Gabe was a little intense. He "feeds off the energy of his fans and teammates; and has a responsibility to use his platform for good" Gabe did make fun of when Doug came back to Boston etc....

Papelbon and Timlin were the next speakers. Timlin hopes Boomer will be back soon.

Did you ask Kapler why he plays on the Jewish holidays? And if he would marry your friend, Miriam?
