Can't Wait for the new EL-P

Prog rockers need not apply - Def Jux sucka!

Does anyone know if <a href="http://pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/41733/ElP_Ill_Sleep_When_Youre_Dead">this</a> is out yet?

I heard the single with Trent Reznor - good, solid stuff..

"Tasmanian Pain Coaster", Anyone?

A dystopic nightmare of an album.

Crushing, dense, throbbing, dissonant, droning, well paced, crazy samples.

yep - EL-P's 'I'll Sleep When You're Dead' delivers the goods.

I am busy that night, but if RSN'ers are not doing anything on the night of EL-P's Paradise performance, I would reccomend going to see the Steve Albini of Hip Hop for some sonic shrapnel.

From the Pitchfork review linked above:

<i>"'Tasmanian Pain Coaster', the album's first track, kicks off with a sample from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. "Do you think that if you were falling in space that you would slow down after a while or go faster and faster?" the first voice (Moira Kelley's Donna Hayward) asks. "Faster and faster," heroine Laura Palmer replies. "For a long time, you wouldn't feel anything. And you'd burst into fire, forever." </i>

"The Steve Albini of hip hop." Good lord.

Had it in my hands last week. Probably should have bought it.

His sound cuts right through yr spinal cord - its good headphone stuff.

I can make you a mix if yr interested.

If you were an extra (Re)fugee in the 'Children of Men' future London landscape, this album might be in yr headphones.

Picked it up today.
Wow, is it sinister. Not necessarily heavy, but fairly dark with lots of rap. Do know if I like it yet.

I think I like it:

'I know this times a fright/ we may have been born yesterday/ but we stayed up all night.'

Cannot call it bubblegum nor soft-shoe; from the gut stuff.
Ridiculous sound snippets.

(Granted I didn't pick up the lyric sheet until yesterday, but):

It took me a full week and a half to figure out that 'Tasmanian Pain Coaster' is about a (not so?) casual exchange between two aquaintances on a subway train platform and the social awkwardness of said exchange on the platform and the deafening silence that ensues on the subway.

IMHO: This album is awesome.

Yep. It is between this and 'Relinquish the Dove' so far for me for albums of the year.

Is that really a sample of radiohead's Myxomatosis in the 3rd or 4th track?

New Tour Date added to Middle East For Tue May 1st

$18 beans, but Im still going to go.

if this doesn't sell out I will be surprised.

this album is like a fungus.

"If you wanna hear some fly shit, some butterfly to the fire shit..."

Love THE EMG sample: "We had some water, smoke and fire and that troubled us a lot: so now we're lowering our prices and they're really really HOT"

I have jury duty the next day. I think I'll probably go.

Although I'll have to hear more...just listened to "Flyentology," not overly excited about it.

Fair enough.

Mebbe hang with Conor in a situation where you can listen to some of it wit a pair of muscular headphones?

It is stark and bleak - I think when I first bought his DEF Jux debut 'Fantastic Damage' it didn't do much for me for like 6 months or so, and then all of the sudden the song "Deep Space 9mm" grabbed me and <u>would not</u> let go.

I've pretty much been foaming at the mouth ever since.

Tuesday May 22 2007 "Jimmy Kimmel Live"
Monday June 11 2007 "Late Night With Conan O'Brien"

I missed both initially, but found the Conan on You Tube:

Kimmel had a rerun of the performance of a different tune on Friday ,but I am still seeking that out.

Quite a week for hip-hop on Kimmel - Chuck D / Flav Flav et. al were on the night before...

I was hoping the show I was at at the Middle East would have more real musicians as this performance does, but thats neither here nor there.

Got it.

Moogs and Bass abound:

Caught the Kimmel a few days ago. Oddly nu metal, but still solid.

Find me on github.
