Papelbon: Closer

Mixed feelings initally -- worried the kid's arm will drop off. This might just be a patch until a trade can be made for another closer, or it might be the real deal -- don't know.

It does make more sense to have Tavarez as a starter than in the bullpen, I think, based on his starts last season. Kason Gabbard has been having a hell of a spring training, too -- a fight for the fifth spot sounds good to me (and how is Snyder doing?)

Papelbon means "paper receipt" in Dutch. Um... I know nothing about baseball.

Correct move! Papelbon proved he can do it, and the sox have lots of options for a fifth starter, not to mention Lester will be back sometime this season. World Series!!!

Pamsterdam - either watch an episode or so of Ken Burns's Baseball series or read <a href ="http://www.amazon.com/Moneyball-Art-Winning-Unfair-Game/dp/0393324818/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-0553517-7687165?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1174659393&sr=8-1">Moneyball</a> by Michael Lewis and you will soon be frothing at the mouth like the rest of us...

...but the players are <strong>so</strong> not hot.

Soccer players, on the other hand...

Agreed, it's the world's game, and it's fan-freakin-tastic.

So disappointed with this one.
What the hell is going on with Hansen?!?!

Citing irreconcilable differences, I'm out.

Hansen's going to do half a year in AAA and then come up to the big club with Timlin goes _back_ on the DL. He'll be doing primary relief, not closing or setup.

Hansen's future is to be a top notch setup man (Think Scot Shields) for Bryce Cox, who is our next shot as a drafted top notch closer. I think Hansen will not pan out as a closer.

Paps will be fine for one more year as a closer and then move to the rotation next year. I would prefer to have seen Schilling be moved into the closing role, as I don't give a shit about his arm falling off. I also would have liked to have seen our starting rotation have 4 guys that are under 30. (assuming Lester comes up)

This, of course, paves the way for Clemens to come back to the Sox.
