Tin Machine II is an album wherein the band finally reconvened following their 1989 world tour. After taking a rest while Bowie went his solo "Sound + Vision" Tour and filmed "The Linguini Incident," the album came out on Victory Records. The band split from EMI because it refused to market another Tin Machine album. As for Bowie, he was fed up with EMI trying to force him into another commercial work like "Let's Dance." Simply put, however, I found this record to be dull and boring. The most exciting thing I can say about it is that the Greek statue album cover got censored in the U.S. when it debuted. It's definitely a step down from the first record. Flaws abound - Hunt Sales lead vocals on several tracks were terrible and "fair at best" songwriting was the norm. I am certainly not the only one to pan this offering, it received generally poor reviews on its release. "Amlapura", "Baby Universal" and "Goodbye Mr. Ed" to some die hard fans arguably could be among Bowie's better recordings from the Tin Machine era - I'm just not quite there. "Oy Vey Baby" is up next, then we'll be back to David Bowie as David Bowie.
