70 minutes into town

I knew it wasn't going to be easy when my legs started to protest and I was still on Eastern Ave. Lots more hills from Lynn to Cambrdige than there are along the Charles River from Brighton's Oak Sq. to Kendall Sq. At the top of every hill I thought: "Get to the top of this, and you'll still have to negotiate the 16/99 rotary, 99 itself, and the rotary at Sullivan Sq." 99 went by fairly quickly, I must say. I was sorely tempted to take the underpass at Sullivan Sq., but I'm glad I didn't. I unwisely took the sidewalk along the bridge from Charlestown and ended up pushing my bike for a bit as the sidewalk being replaced. Lynn & Saugus went by easily, luckily, since that's the bulk of the miles. Lookng forward to a morning stop at Kane's Doughnuts. To top it all off, I was "that guy", who knocks over his fellow bike commuter's ride at the rack. Oh well. Wish I had a sweatshirt, it's freezing in here right now.

May I recommend Austin St. to Main St. in Charlestown on the way back, instead of 99? If you find a better route through Everett, let me know. I hate 99 through there, but I don't take it ofter enough to bother trying any other way.

Good tip. Thanks. Prison Point/John F. Gilmore Bridge might be the worst part of the trip.

I've never been on the Prison Point at rush hour.. it's usually no problem when I'm there. If you want to avoid it, you could do Washington St. from Sullivan into Somerville, left onto Medford (under McGrath), which turns into Gore in Cambridge.

That was my original plan, then I thought "why don't I take the 99 under pass". Then I thought "if the underpass doesn't kill me, Lara will". Then I thought "might as well take 99 and avoid that hill or two on Washington St.".
